Perpetual Summer

‘Twas no descent into darkness
more fitting a dream
that dream of darkness
that path of light
brighter with each step taken

Onward, downward
absent fear and aprehension
until the way opened upon
an expanse embraced by
the beauty of winter

Still, a dream it was, for
long has been our summer
here, underground, where
the safe path lies ever deeper
far from our burning sun
