Notes from a small dog XVIII

Morning, people!

Oh but it has been a busy day so far… and I’ve only just had breakfast! Balls to find, cuddles to give, gardening to do… you know the type of thing…

We had a good walk earlier, when all the birds were waking up, so I had fun there. I’m busy guarding the front window at present. Just in case anyone walks past. Of course, she shuts the curtains till later so I can’t see out.. and of course, I have a way of jumping up and opening them.. I can put my paws on the shiny stuff and it slides apart so I can see anyway.

I’m just doing my duty. I may not be a vicious guard dog, but I am a really good early warning system.

And you’ve got to be careful, you know. Only this morning I found a space invader on the shed roof. I was very calm about it. I didn’t bark or shout. Just got as close as I could and stared…. It stared back. And didn’t move. I had to try and climb the trellis. And it still sat there! I mean, honestly! Next door’s Ginger knows better. It can perch all it wants but it runs when I tell it to go! This thing just sat there, placidly, as if it didn’t realise it was a cat!

I found that a bit disconcerting and sat down to ponder.  I tried surprise tactics and leaped back up again. Didn’t even flinch! Just sat and watched me as if it was amused.

She, of course, was no help at all. Just went and got the camera thingy, laughing.

You know, I am used to cats that behave in a predictable way, so this thing caught me off guard, not behaving how I expected it to. It sat there all calmly amused until it was quite ready, then just wandered off in its own sweet time.

You find that, though. People are usually very predictable and you barely have to try to know what to do next. Then something changes, something is different… just a small thing sometimes, and it throws everything out and you have to take notice. Like when a certain person (who shall remain nameless) hid my tennis ball in the lamp instead of throwing it as I had trained him to do….

Now, the postman pulled up down the street, so I have to do the postman dance so she knows he’s coming. Sometimes predictable is useful too!

Much love,

Ani x

lol Don’t worry, Ani. They all look at me like that too… kind of like they own the place. Won’t shift, no matter how much I jump up and down. Unless I have the watering can to hand, that is… 😉

  3. That cat does look amused. But, tell Ani my cats understand. They have the same problem with a bold, sassy, squirrel. He’ll sit right on the outside of the window ledge and just stare at one of the cats on the other side of the window.
