Ani’s Advent Calendar 2019! ~ Maintaining one’s Dognity

Morning, Santa!

We’ve been having lots of white stuff out there… but no snow yet. Only frost so far. Don’t suppose you could help out with that?

It gets awfully cold on the paws, though. I mentioned this to the two-legs, but she just said I probably wouldn’t want to wear dog boots.

She’s probably right too. I saw her looking… especially at the bright red ones with little white furry cuffs… very Christmassy, she said. Would you do that to your reindeer? I never see pictures of Rudolph in boots! Puss-in-boots, maybe… but yeah, well, I’ll never understand cats…

But we dogs must maintain our dignity, you know.

Trouble is, I’m not sure I’ve got one.

She keeps telling me I have no dignity at all…  and she may have a point as I’m not at all sure what one is.

And I think I’m s’pposed to have one as friends are rallying round to protect it… like the two-legs who send the poem I’m sharing today.

So maybe you could deliver one on Christmas morning…?

Unless it is too heavy for Rudolph and co…

Dignity does seem a bit weighty when she talks about it.

But you’ll know best.

Much love,

Ani xxx

Dear Santa Paws

Santa, dear Santa I asking you please,
Rescue my friend and don’t be a tease!

Her fate’s in your hands, I know it is true,
Her life it depends on the things that you do.

The fetters she’s facing will do terrible harm,
They’ll mess with her looks and incredible charm.

But if you say the word with strength and with vigor,
Then Ani will be saved from a mean-spirited snigger.

I plead for her case, let justice be provided.
And this Christmas event will not be divided,

Let Ani be free to live as intended,
And let the world know that she is defended!

A Friend

About Pamela

Pamela, better known to the blogging community as Quiall, blogs at Butterfly Sand. She is a writer and poet who loves to draw and paint.

She writes of herself:

“I am a woman with a mission: to live life to the fullest. I will not let an itty, bitty incurable disease stop me. It may slow me down but like a ship dragging an anchor, I’ll get there eventually. Walk with me at www.butterflysand.com.”

Antlers are for Reindeer!

If you would like to help save Ani from a fate (she says) worse than death, send your Letters to Santa, festive memories, short stories, flash fiction or poems to the Small Dog. She will post them every day through December until Christmas.

She would especially like to hear from her four-legged or feathered friends (she has a special place very close to her heart for turkeys)… but she says that two-legs are better than none, so she will accept submissions from humans too. 5. Of course, we would be more than willing to help out our dear friend across the pond with some snow. Over the last two days, our seasonal supplier has been very generous. Many of us have run out of room to store the stuff.

Lovely poem – and I love the undignified pose in the photo, Ani. Relaxed and joyful is much better than amount of dignity.

Dignity is highly over-rated, Ani … and it stops one from having the most wonderful, glorious fun. 😀
