CHECK OUT THE WORDPRESS CLASSIC STATS REDIRECT SCRIPT V2 – REBLOG from Serendipity

Noticed that you’ve lost your old stats page? Here’s a workaround (actually two workarounds) that may help you get stats you actually can use — until WordPress”fixes it” again. Oy.

The “new improved” stats page has no useful information in it. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the way it looks. If I’m on the stats page, it’s because I want data. I want to see which posts did well, how the month is going, how the year is going. How many posts I’ve written and the number of views. And from where they are coming.

The new format for stats is “stats lite.” Apparently WordPress thinks we are morons and can’t deal with meaningful numbers. They have to make them cute and user-friendly because we’re too dumb to deal with anything that gives us information.

I want to also mention the new reblog format. It includes ONLY THE TITLE and one miniature picture. No text at all, so if you want to include any text, you have to dosome significant editing. This is also true if you use Press It.

  1. Thanks Sue.. I am infuriated with WP to do this just before Christmas. I go in through the WP dashboard and access thes stats from there which is more or less the original. I hate the upgraded editing and go in through Wp admin, comments and then posts which allows the classic editing.. hate the new stats and at first thought I should not be such a luddite but really it has gone from user friendly to Disney World.. Google + has just done the same and I am now not interested in using.. I think it is not just changing for changing sake but justification for their jobs… Anyway.. hope you had a great Christmas..

  3. Sue – I think you know how I feel about the dumbed-down version of WordPress we are allowed to access. And I am ALL about the workarounds! So thank you for reblogging this post! (And I hope you had a joyous Christmas!)

  4. I am guessing that eventually, for a price (a hefty one, no doubt), WordPress will “offer” us a set of tools which are the tools we used to get for free, but for which we will then have to pay. Penguin’s fixes usually work very well, once I figure out what I need to do. But I am tired of fighting this battle and I don’t understand the point of it, unless it’s to ultimately turn this into the dumbed down ‘free version” and an expensive “paid” version. Except — I already pay them for upgraded service (and more storage space). I’m at my $$ limit … so if they keep pushing, I can’t afford any more. It’s not like this is a money-making thing for me. It’s still, in the end, a hobby.

Same here, Marilyn. I make not a penny from blogging, and spend enough to be able to provide a useable, attractive platform for readers. Ultimately, we contribute to the wages of those employed by Automattic; price dedicated writers out of the market and they will head elsewhere.

  5. Thank you so much. Once again WP is fiddling with stuff. So many changes (and often irritating ones) since I started blogging. I do now pay, so it ain’t free any more…and I do allow ads still. And I do not like all the “help” / dumbed downed situation. (But makes it even easier for business and the less dedicated fluff bloggers…and there seems to be a huge new bunch of those recently)
