It’s cold outside today. Autumn, she says. I know what that means…lots of wonderful smells and long romps in piles of leaves and muddy puddles…then warm snuggles and long evenings…
… and the other stuff…and it’s already started!
Me, I thought I’d got another few weeks before she dug that photo out again… she does like to embarass me…But, for once, it is all in a good cause.
The bangs have started. Way too early! They sent all the birds up out of their roost… which would have been fun, but as I didn’t know what was happening, I thought I ought to stay in and make sure she was safe. The cows weren’t happy either!
Then I remembered.
Fireworks.
Here we go again… and just look at what’s coming up.
There’s Hallowe’en, Bonfire Night, Diwali, Thanksgiving and then there’ll be New Year… and me, I’ll be cowering hiding living under her desk to make sure she’s alright with all the loud noises, pops and bangs again. She gets a bit skittish, you know.
She won’t have to make me a tent this year though.. the new desk has walls for me…and she can keep herself calm by putting her feet in my fur when I’m under there.
So, I just thought, as the bangs are starting earlier and earlier, I’d better get the reminder out now…
‘Cause you know…humans are animals too.
Much love,
Ani xxx
Blimey! That is early. Sorry, Sue…I mean, Ani.

Such a cute photo. ❤ Fireworks scare us. Our biped can tell the minute our stubs go down.

Oh, you’re right, Ani. My apologies, I read your story too quickly. I thought you were talking about last year, but you clearly said it had started again last night. I hope your nerves weren’t too shattered by the experience. I know fireworks are fun for humans, but not much fun for dogs and cats. 🙂

Sadly, not last year… but already! I can live without the things… and she just laughs at me. Cuddles me to though… Much love, Ani xxx

Fortunately, Halloween and the other autumn to winter holidays aren’t fireworks time around here. On the negative side, it’s hunting season. I can hear the guns in the woods. I’m always worried about stray bullets. This will go on through November. I wish they wouldn’t shoot so near houses and farms. They always end up shooting a few cows and occasionally people, too. The motto being “If it moves, shoot it.”

Thankfully thre is not much hunting here, except for the pheasants and grouse. You always hear the shotguns…and they worry me too.

They should ban the bangs Ani, Charlie hated them too. Silly humans !!!

They can have the sparkly things… but couldn’t they just take the bangs out? Much love, Ani xxx

Hi Ani, Dante Dog here. I knows just what you means. I have to watch over Mum Adele as she really really hates the bangs, so I be very brave and lick her nose when she gets frightened. She tells me that once people tried to cure her by taking her to a place where big bangs happened every year. She was so terrified that she tried to climb a tree in the park to get away from the bangs. We thinks they are stupid. Much paw love Ani, Dante xxxx

Mine says she quite likes them…but I’m not so sure. She doesn’t seem to go far when they are going off, just cuddles up to me. You look after your two-legs, Dante. Much love, Ani xxx

And the bangs seem to start earlier in the year every year, and go on to well past New Year… Poor Ani, she has her work cut out these next few months, making sure you’re ‘okay’.
PS Hope you’re feeling better x

She does and they do… quite unneccessary, much as I enjoy fireworks (whatever Ani may say!).
The head is still stuffed with cotton wool at present…but doubtless, I’m getting there. Have to! I go north again next weekend 🙂 x

Glad to hear you’re getting there – hopefully it will be all cleared up by the time you head north again. I must say I wish I was heading there too… 🙂

Ani, I don’t like bangs either and we have a lot of thunderstorms around here. So my humans got me a comfort coat. I do like it – it makes me feel very calm and comfortable and I don’t have to hide out in a crate with a blanket over it any more! Love, Angel.

I’ve heard of those…but I don’t like coats. On the other hand Angel, her desk is like a crate… but with her as the blanket 😉 Much love, Ani xxx

I’ve not heard any of those bangs yet, Ani, but we’re in a new house this year, so I don’t know what the Welsh two legs are like for those bang things. However, my boys always build me a den and I tend to sneak under there. Hugh even got me a security jacket last year, which made me feel very snug and sleepy. Problem is, he can’t remember where he put it, so I guess that means those moths are going to have to come out of his folding up money thingy. I quite enjoy chasing them, but Hugh doesn’t let them out very often!
Take care and thank you for the tips.
Toby

A very important post from Ani who takes care of Sue Vincent this morning. Fireworks look very pretty but they cause incredible stress in not just our domestic pets but also wildlife and farm animals. We used to stay in with Sam and put on a western or war film that we knew was loud enough to drown out the sound of the fireworks.. he slept through many a sea battle… remember as Ani says to do what you can to minimise the stress..
