Evening is bruised
By fading day
The colour of contusions
On his wrists
Where he twists
And turns.
Striped by bars,
Burnt by bright light,
Salts of life
Crystallise
On lips, tongue and eyes.
His only respite
A darkening sky
With promise of rain
To drown his pain.
