At first glance, these birds wowed me.
A few seconds later I started to wonder, Are they real?
Well … yes. And no.
Before attempting to explain what’s going on in these images, the artist, Cheryl Medow, might appreciate you taking a similar approach to experiencing her photography as she does to making it. “I don’t think my pictures through,” she says, “I feel them.”

This is a nice photograph, Sue, although it didn’t look quite real to me but instead more like an oil painting. I clicked across to look at the original article and learned what the artist was doing. Her pictures are very artistic, but I’m not sure David Attenborough would approve.

I thought it was a painting too at first glance. I don’t know if they work to https://widgets.wp.com/notificationsbeta/2403740148#document wildlife, but they certainly work to show the world’s beauty.

They are great. The one you put up on your website was my favorite of the lot too.

I think of those kind of artfully processed photographs as “artographs.” They are no long entirely photographs. They are something new. Art based on photography. I’ve seen some breathtaking work of this kind. I hope one day to be able to do some myself.

I doubt I’d be able to manage this level of work…ever. But that’s okay…I’m happy to sit back and admire the skill and the beauty that makes the art.
