Should the Small Dog go missing… we will know where to look….

Whenever I felt oppressed by adversity as a boy, my father was always there for me. “Don’t worry, lad,” he’d say, laying a comforting hand on my shoulder. “Always remember that as one door shuts, another one closes.”
I’ve been thinking about those words a lot recently. Janus, the Roman deity after whom January is named, was the god of doorways, beginnings and endings. He had two heads, one that looked backwards, allowing him to reflect on the past and another that faced forwards, preventing him from walking into streetlights and falling down manholes.
Although it may not always be clear because of the paper bag I’ve taken to wearing in recent years, I have only one head. Nevertheless, by the crafty expedient of turning around briefly, I too can look back on the past. For the most part, what I see as I survey 2015 and compare it to its predecessors is the same old familiar landscape of barely-paid bills, unfulfilled hopes and broken resolutions.

Indeed, and he says he’s ordered the sausgaes. Will Ani be able to resist such bribery?

She’ll probably hold out for a trial run, eat the sausages then either come home or be sent back having worn him to a fazzle chasing tennis balls 😉

Thanks so much Sue for reblogging this. I really appreciate it. I promise I won’t approach Ani with that packet of sausages I got from the supermarket the other day. It’s a shame, though. She’s got real canine charisma. 🙂

She’d only eat and run, Bun 😉

You’ve no idea… This is the dog who stole the cheese from the fridge and left her tennis ball in there so I wouldn’t notice…

Just a shame she chooses to use all that intellect to have a mind of her own… 😉

Yes, it is a pity she doesn’t put it to more practical use for you. Popping down to the supermarket to buy bread and milk every other day, for example. 🙂

She does keep me safe from stray postmen, invading sparrows and the occasional spider though 😉
