Zombie dawn

Why is it that on every day when sleeping is a must
The Sandman overlooks your daily dose of fairy dust?
Why does the night drag wakeful when you need a decent slumber
And Insomniacs United add your picture to their number?
You’d done the meditation and the nice relaxing shower,
You’d had hot milk and read a bit before the witching hour;
But still you lie there counting sheep, the outcome undecided…
The drive ahead is longer than the sleep the night provided.
Alarm clocks are an insult when they ring this time of morning,
Insanity to be up and about before the dawning!
You down another coffee and the irony brings laughter,
You’d been so good but feel like it’s a lousy ‘morning after’,
You’d fought for sleep and stayed awake regardless all the night
And now you’re drinking coffee in the hope you’ll be alright.
The moral of this story told to your heart straight from mine?
Forget the malted bedtime milk, and have a glass of wine.
Old Morpheus might then pop by to join the celebration
And hold you in his sweet embrace because of the libation;
You might as well… you feel as if you’re in the aftermath,
You’ve even shivered through a rather bracing, chilly bath
Had coffee on the doorstep till the autumn turned you blue
… But the zombie in the mirror looks an awful lot like you.

    I love the poem. I hope you sleep better tonight! Oh and next time the same happens to me, I’ll be calling on Morpheus with the wine. Fantastic idea. 🙂
