A bit disappointing I said to the glass,
It’s not really orange, it almost has class…
It’s still bright and vivid, I have to concede,
But a rather more virulent shade’s what I need.
You’ve guessed it, I’ve been at the bottle again,
No, not ‘mother’s ruin’, just dyeing the mane…
The dog thinks it’s funny and raises her brow
You can tell that she’s wondering what I’m at now!
My usual colour was not on the shelf
Let’s go for adventure, I thought to myself
Selecting a box that looked several shades lighter,
In hopes of a beacon to make the day brighter.
A date with the scissors was next in the diary,
I’m growing the stuff and it looked a bit wiry,
So dig out the meat shears and hack away quickly
(A sight to leave any coiffeur feeling sickly).
It could be much worse, for it doesn’t look bad…
(Well… better at least than a used scouring pad).
You can cover up much when your hair is so curly
And even a massacred mop can look girlie.
I didn’t want smooth hair, or ringlets or dreadlocks,
Just something that’s easy to do with my red locks,
You could call it wild but that sounds a bit dressy,
It’s probably fairer to just call it messy.
I might call it ‘windswept’, ‘cause that’s a bit nearer,
“You cut it yourself, dear?”… it couldn’t be clearer,
Though auto-coiffure may appear a bit scary,
Hairdressing is by definition quite hairy.
So pass me the scissors and don’t be alarmed,
Even though you may panic to see me thus armed
But hell, I don’t care… you can just call it bed-head…
And take my advice… never mess with a red-head.

lol… though a little disappointed that the good Lady Lilith has stood in for the picture we all want to see… 😀

‘sweird… some times it does, sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes it adds it on a couple of hours later…
I trust that it all works out in the end… somehow… 😮

It reminds me of my teenage fascination and experiments of henna on dark blonde/light brown hair – fiery copper 🙂

As someone who once had my hair dyed punky plum, I admire your pluck.
I wanted to see a photo of your tresses, but, no such luck.
(This doesn’t nearly match your charming poem, which I did enjoy. Come on, Sue, where’s a photo of you?) 😉
