I’ve been in the garden the whole afternoon

And most of the evening too,

It’s taken advantage while I convalesce

And could probably feed a small zoo.

Don’t think I’m complaining, I’m loving the green

But I wouldn’t mind seeing the flowers,

It doesn’t take long for the weeds to invade

And I fought with the bindweed for hours!

I’d started, of course, with the overgrown lawn

And launched my attack with the mower,

It was wet, so I can’t say I’ve done a good job

But at least the damned stuff’s rather lower.

The small dog, of course, chose to help me to dig,

In a place I did not want a hole,

If she gives up her role as a small blogging dog,

She could make a new life as a mole.

I gathered the toys she had left in the rain

And took then inside to the washer,

And if I find any more half eaten plants

I shall sit on the small dog and squash her!

I’m only halfway through the job as it stands,

But it is one that is giving me pleasure.

The first summer flowers are starting to bloom

So you could say I found buried treasure.
