Notes from a small dog XI

in there somewhere

Don’t panic! I’m home.  And so is she. Finally.

I was getting a bit worried there for a while. She never leaves me that long….Not that I mind at all spending some time with my friend and the new laddie they have. Gucci used to live here too, till her humans left home and she had to go with them to look after them of course. They were only pups themselves really. So we are old friends, Gooch was my first furry friend after I came here. She was a lot older than me and had forgotten how to play. And how to bark. I soon sorted that out.

Mind, the first time she barked it took me by surprise. (Gooch, not her… nothing surprises me from her….)Of course, I was a tad disadvantaged then… once I fell of the sofa I couldn’t get back up. I got that sorted,  though, too. I like to sit on the back of the sofa. I can see all the way down the street… and all the other way in the big mirror on the  wall too. She says I’m a nosey little cow…. She needs lessons. I’m a dog.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, teaching Gooch how to play. It took a bit of doing, and the odd stealth attack on the tail… but we got there. You should never forget how to play. It keeps you young and fit, diving around like that. And it makes living fun. I keep telling her that too… though I had to stare at her quite sternly when she threw my puppy. She’s been away too long.

You can throw the balls till the cows come home. I’ll fetch them back and you can do it again. You can, in fact, throw anything and I will play… no matter how late it is, I will oblige. But my soft puppy and Ted? Oh no. She should know better. They are to be played with very gently. I was shocked.

But it had been fun to go play with the dogs. They treat me like one of their pack and we three dogs and the little human have loads of fun.

Yeah, gone, man, solid gone....

Yeah, gone, man, solid gone….

But I kept expecting her to come for me and she didn’t. They told me she was at the vets.. at least, I think that’s what hospital is. In fact, I didn’t see her till they brought me home this morning. That’s ages…..

I’ve nearly calmed down now. It was really exciting, checking all the bones were buried where I’d left them, all my toys were in place… you can’t trust those pigeons, you know. Not for a minute. Eat anything. So I had a word with them too, just to let them know the boss was back. Me, that is.

Then, of course, we got down to business. I had to give her a cuddle. She always cuddles me after I’ve been to the vets. And she’d been shopping. I approve of the nice meaty bone. And the ham I smell tucked in the fridge, but come on… vegetables ???? Is that all she’s eating tonight? Really? How unfair is that…..I quite like the odd bit of fruit, but I can live without vegetables… though I did manage to eat some just on principle… she hates eating alone, so I try and help by offering to share every time. It’s my duty.

I can do 'pathetically half starved' really well....

I can do ‘pathetically half starved’ really well….

Course, she mentioned I have to say something about having a Happy Easter to everyone out there. That was when she put the chocolate things out of even my reach.

She keeps telling me dogs can’t eat chocolate. Honest…we can… given even half a chance…..if someone will just get it down from the top of the cupboard, I’ll show you….

I may have to go and look half-starved again… you never know sue 036your luck till you try…

Much love,

Ani x

  8. Good to hear you are not still stuck in hospital – must be lovely to be home!! 🙂

I love the video of your dogs – so sweet! I love watching animals play, they are so much more human than we see them! Also watched the video of Nick on your You Tube page, really good to see that news report – you are both such an inspiration! And also your dancing – very elegant, and love the music too! Got a feeling I’ve seen that before, but maybe it was just a picture? It’s difficult remembering everything I’ve ever seen on these blogs, so much to recall! 😀

Oh I forgot those were still on there. It just shows how far Nick has come really.. and busy going unexpected places now too! More on that when I’m up to it.

The hospital patched me up enough to get home, being so far away when I collapsed in a gibbering heap in the layby… I’m already halfway through investigations here so it would have served little purpose to begin all over again there too.

So I have the pre-op on the 17th, then I imagine surgery a week or so later. Then maybe some answers finally.
