Notes from a small dog X

guest room 002

Dereliction of duty… call the RSPCA…she forgot dinner again! No, not mine… she never forgets mine… just hers. But you see, if she doesn’t eat, I can’t eat what she’s eating…Still, she’s put potatoes in to bake, and I like those. Not the potatoes so much as the cheese… oh, I hope she’s got more cheese. I know she had some yesterday, but it, erm… let’s just say it disappeared. I was only helping her tidy up! How was I to know she was going to toast it? I might forgive her if there’s cheese…

Still, she’s not well. She says it’s just a bug. Not sure about that.. I mean, the bugs are usually out in my garden. Her voice is all funny and she’s not playing enough. I only got two walks today too. Short ones. And she curled up on the sofa again. I brought the squeaky crocodile to play and put it right on her face… but she just said it was soggy. Well of course it was soggy, I’d given it a really good chew for her first! She groaned and turned over and I got a bit worried then, so I tried to dig her head up from under the cushion. And she shouted at me.

Ears down.. but that's another story...

Ears down.. but that’s another story…

Well, sort of. It was more of a growl. But I didn’t like it. I felt obliged to put my ears down so that she would know too. Right down. She got the message. I wasn’t letting her off that easily.  But she’s sort of funny when she’s not well. Her eyes leak things sometimes that taste like the sea. I’m not supposed to lick her face, but I manage it when she leaks, ‘cause she goes all cuddly. Well, more cuddly than usual.

So we curled up together for a bit.

Now that was all well and good, until I started making these funny noises. I couldn’t help it… it just kept on and on and she just giggled! I mean, I was panicking! I looked everywhere to see what was making it happen. Was I starting to bark like a human? Instead of reassuring me, it just made her laugh more. She called it sneezing. It’s never happened to me before! Most undignified!

Yeah ok, I know I’m not the worlds most dignified dog. I’m not exactly built for it.

I never quite mastered dignified...

I never quite mastered dignified…

Anyway, I’d heard all about these herbal remedies, and I know she grows them in the garden, so I thought I’d try a little mallow root…she says that’s good for bugs. Anything to stop the sneezing! It took me a few attempts to find a decent root, and she wasn’t best pleased with me about that either. Especially as I brought it inside to chew… you know, just so she could close the door and keep warm.

I’ve always liked gardening though. I had a good dig to see if I could find any of these bugs she was talking about too. I only managed a couple of worms though and I’m not sure she appreciated them properly.

Seems as if I can’t do anything right today and I’m doing my best. Sometimes though I just have to accept it is going to be one of those days and just keep trying anyway. It will all work out as it should in the end, as long as I carry on. She loves me anyway.

But really, after all my efforts to help, what did she do? Got my towels out again and she’s running a bath. That’s twice this year! So if you don’t mind, I may need to wander off and hide under the table for a bit….

Much love, Ani winks
