I made her laugh out loud today. I try my best. I am a bit of a clown sometimes. But she had a headache and didn’t look too good again, so I pulled all the stops out for her. Apart from anything else she was so caught up in the painting stuff she had been ignoring me

Well, maybe not completely ignoring. She talks to me all the time. Just not playing. Apart from when I put the ball on the squishy stuff on her palette thingy… she threw it then. Tasted funny though and left little white marks on the carpet… she fetched it herself when she saw that. I have her pretty well trained with the ball. If she thinks she is too busy to play I just put it on the computer shelf or whatever she is working on and look at her. Maybe a gentle woofle. Just till she gets the idea.

By the time I’d moonwalked backwards across the carpet a few times and done my best Tigger impression she was chuckling. But she laughed out loud when she threw the ball and it landed with the other one. After I’d picked each one up in turn a few times, and looked at her, over my shoulder, just to see if I had the right one… she was laughing so much she was no use at all. So I gave up and brought them both at once. Which just made her worse for some reason.

Laughing seems to make her feel better every time. So does taking time out to just play in the moment with me, forgetting everything else except my eyes for that little while. When she holds my eyes she is with me completely and nothing else in the world exists for her. Or for me.

I helped with the recycling too. I always do. The planet is my home so I like to do my bit. I squash all the milk cartons and make sure they are perfectly clean… and any other packaging she puts to one side for recycling. Some of it is really interesting too. I’m quite fond of yoghurt. And ice cream. And well, most anything really. There is certainly never any food waste to recycle in this house! So while she was busy I just got on with my work quietly.

She laid down on the sofa today. I can tell she’s not feeling good when she does that. I know anyway, of course. I’m a dog. We notice. But if she lays there, she’s noticed too. She was all cold so I sat on her to keep her warm. It seemed the right thing to do.

It was the only thing I could do really. That’s hard, you know, when you want to help and can’t. Not really. No matter how much you want to. I am a dog after all. I help a bit round the house and give her laughter and cuddles, but what else can I do? So I sat on her so she couldn’t move. I sniffed her face from time to time, just checking, you know.

It must have done some good though, ‘cause I had to wake her up by tickling her with my whiskers when it got dark. It was way past my dinner time, but that’s ok. She made up for it with ice cream.

I took her for a little walk and now she’s in the pink fluffy thing again so I can go to sleep soon. Once she’s wearing that I know she’s not going anywhere.

So I’ll just check next door’s cat isn’t in the garden then I may curl up for the night.

Love,

Ani

  6. That last picture reminds me of the WordPress smilie with the tongue out 😛 it’s a pity you can’t turn it into your own personal smilie! 🙂 I like the bit about the pink fluffy thing! And dogs definitely know our habits. I can remember our dog who had a severe addiction to chips, and would quite happily eat discarded ones along the road if she could get nothing else, used to know when my dad was getting ready to go to the chip shop, even though it was only something he did occasionally! 😀

Oh it would be great to have her as my smiley 🙂 Yes, they know us and read us far better than we think sometimes. She knows very well if I am going to my son’s or likely to be away from the house for longer. She knows if I am about to make coffee (which means she can convince me into putting milk in her bowl) and will always tell me if I’ve forgotten the toaster ( even when I haven’t)….we share 🙂
