So… she went to play in the snow … without me. How mean is that? And all I got was excuses…
“Didn’t know we were going,” she says. “We would have taken you if we’d known,” she says. “I promise I’ll take you for a really long walk next time it snows,” she says.
Oh yeah?
“Karma,” says I, the very next morning, as she is standing there shivering and holding the door open for me at half past five. “Better get your snow shoes on…”
Serves her right. I love it when it works like that 🙂
Yes, I know it doesn’t work like that… It doesn’t come on demand, and it isn’t a tit-for-tat thing either. It is all about the Balance thingy that the Black One holds, with the heart and the feather, not about revenge being sweet and, in this case, definitely served cold. But, a dog can dream, can’t she? Call it a figure of speech…
“Would you like to hurry up out there?” she says. Her teeth were chattering by now. She, who has a nice, warm bathroom with a seat near the radiator… would she fancy ‘going’ outside in that weather, I ask you? There were icicles on the water butt… And there’s me, trying to keep the snow all pristine and white for her… Honestly, you can’t please some people.
Anyway, she left me there and disappeared. Came back a few minutes later looking like a big furry ball… but she did have my harness in her hand! I admit, it was tricky trying to contain my excitement while we got ready… the snow was still all white, after all… but minutes later, we were in the lane with miles of clean, clear snow to explore.
Not a two-legs footprint in sight, not even a bird’s… though she said most of them would still be asleep. I think she meant the two-legses though. She kept grumbling about it being too dark for the camera-thingy and talking to herself about being mad as a hatter. I have to say, she is probably right about that… but not because we were out and about so early. Just in general terms.
We did see one of her hawks, though, and the owl was out hunting. We only saw it once over the fields, but you could hear it calling like something out of a ghost story. Lucky she had me to look after her. There were fox prints in the snow by the hedge too… it looked like he was going after the chickens at the farm. I’ve met those chickens though… I didn’t fancy is chances with the big fat one!
By the time we got home again, she was looking a bit blue, though she was smiling. I was a bit on the wet side, though, so by the time she had me dry and had washed all the wet paw prints off the floors she was nice and warm again. I do like making sure she gets proper exercise every day.
We still have snow in the garden, but it has gone all hard and crunchy now…the ball bounces on it! So, while she says she is dreaming of spring and daffodils, I’m dreaming of loads more snow.
Secretly. I think she is too.
Much love,
Ani xxx
Glad you got to play Sue 💜

Oh Ani, I’m glad you got to play in the snow which you love to do. I’m a Spanish dog and I don’t do cold and snow. This morning there was a cold breeze. We went for our walk, I did my thing and then I ran all the way home and jumped back into the warm bed. I guess I’m a woose. Dot the dog.

Hi Dot, I bet you get loads of sun though… more than we do here. I like sun, but the two-legs tends to melt… 😉

Hi, Ani, We had the snow too and they laugh when I try to catch the snowflakes in my mouth. I loves it, it makes me want to run and run and run. Happy snow days, much paw love, Dante Dawg. xxx

Dear Ani, I’ll be perfectly honest here, I usually cringe when I read words ‘written’ or thought by domesticated creatures like dogs and cats (unless in a children’s story)BUT your friend and mistress, Sue, is a genius at doing just that on your behalf. Please lick her hand, gently, for me and bark a ‘thank you.’ You are a clever dog! Enjoy the snow. xx

Friend? yes… mistress? Who are you kidding! We all know who is in charge around here 😉 Even so… thank you very much on behalf of my pet two-legs 😀

Glad you got some good snow time. Hope you get more. I think you’re right she secretly does too. My Mummy doesn’t keep her love of snow a secret. She’s just like a puppy when the snow comes. Not that we’ve really had any. It tried the other day, but was more slushy stuff than anything. She says because of the salty sea air. At least, she assumes that’s why it is, because places a little more inland than us did get theirs. We’re both hoping for more snow – proper snow this time. Though she says it needs to either hurry up, or wait until after she gets back from the hospital place, since she’s going there in a couple of days. I agree, because she’s the best at staying out to play in it (Daddy gets cold and wants to come back in quickly… Odd, since he was born and raised in Canada, and I’m told they get loads of it there, so you’d think he’d be more used to it). Lots of licks, Lilie
