Steps led up to the small platform, but he was unable to determine from floor level if they were hollowed tunnels, or just recesses.
The debris scattered around could have been splintered rock or shale, but he would need his kit to analyze it properly. It was smooth, yet powdery to touch, and as the fine dust sifted through his fingers, he heard voices.
