What I want to know is, can I get a refund?
Or an exchange her for a better model?
Or maybe complain…
Frankly, I’m disappointed in her.
I mean, okay, she shares some stuff… cheese and custard and ice cream and things. And that’s all very well. But if I’m sitting on her shoulder… with my head right next to her mouth too…how can she possibly not share that bit of chocolate?
She says it’s not good for me. Personally, I think that is just an excuse. And if she thinks it’s good for her she needs to check her waistline. And that’s part of my job, after all… making sure she doesn’t expand too much.
She’s just not consistent. That’s the big problem.
Take the barking for instance… I bark at people coming too close to the back gate at night and I get ‘good girl’. Bark at the cat next door or the blessed birds that are constantly invading, and she has words… and not nice ones either!
Then this morning, I spent ages… erm… rescuing a spider from under the sideboard… then she tells me not to play with it, and picks it up to play with herself… and takes it out into the garden to play!
Then there’s the whole walk business… I have to go outside in all weathers…not that I mind as long as it is a good run, but there is a principle involved here. She gets to sit on the big white cup thing in the warm. If I tried that inside she would not be best pleased… I learned that early on.
She can be in there ages too, and when I bring her a ball to play with, you know, just so she doesn’t get bored… all I get is a ‘not now’. ‘Course, then she faffs around with the tissue roll. I I do, she isn’t pleased about that either! Then it’s the soapy thing and water…
I wouldn’t mind, but she’s not even facing the right way! She tells me not everyone does… that most don’t even know they should. Well, we do. She must mean you two legs. She says architects must need compasses or some such thing. She even says you lot don’t feel the earth the way we do! I can’t believe that! Even the ruddy birds feel the earth currents!
Ok, she did clarify that a bit. Says you can feel them, you’ve just stopped feeling the earth currents most of the time. She gave me that by way of explanation, but honestly, people, that’s even worse…well, to a dog it is! How do you know where you are? And if you don’t know that, how can you know who you are?
Or maybe you don’t?
That’s probably why you need us.
So maybe I shouldn’t trade her in against a better model after all. She probably really needs me around, you know…
Much love,
Ani xxx

They’m sweet pets though some of time – but sting-mingy on the chocolate front like what you say. They’m not get that DOG be GOD backwards, silly muppets! xxx

Heya Jumble.. hope you’re feeling a bit better after your chocolate raid. Good show there!
You’re right though, we have to look after ’em… they are no good without us. And even when we show them what unconditional means, they still get it wrong…
Ah well, they haven’t really been around all that long, have they? Pups take a bit of teaching… 😉 xxx

Ani, Angel here. You need to listen to your human about that chocolate. It IS bad for you, My human also told me so but I don’t like it anyway, You sound like a good companion to your human, and in my personal opinion, you have a pretty cushy life. I wouldn’t trade her. Just my humble terrier thoughts.
PS I think we could have great fun together. I love to be outdoors and can run really fast.

Hi Angel, I’m still not conviced on the chocolate front… she has funny ideas about raisins too. And onions. On the other hand, I believe she has bacon in the fridge so there may be hope for her yet 😉

Lovely post, Ani. Maybe you and my dog, Toby, who has also written a few posts, should write a post together? I’m sure it would be a huge hit. If you’ll do the chasing, he’ll do the running and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind sharing a tennis ball or two with you.

Great, I’ll let him know once he wakes up from his afternoon nap. I’m sure if I say the word ‘cheese’ he’ll be up and out of his bed in a flash.

Hilarious! I lived in a house in Scotland with an elderly bored Irish Wolfhound who had a chocolate ‘thing, and every time I opened the wrapper he’d hear me and there was the approaching click-click of claws on linoleum. It was like he was being patient with me…

Ani, your coat is beautiful, healthy and shiny, so she must be taking really good care of you. You know you would miss her terribly if you traded her in. 😉

Well, it does seem to have grown back nicely after the embarassing allergy earlier in the year. Bald rumped dog was not a look I liked…
