No, I know I don’t usually accept blogging awards these days. But it is a holiday… which means it is a time for not doing usual things. It is also the start of a new year, which makes it a perfect time to look at some of the things that have inspired me over the last one… and share the work of just a few of the people who write on WordPress.
And anyway… I couldn’t refuse Seumas and his cheeky Glaswegian twinkle….
If your blog is on the list and you accept awards, the guidelines are below. If you don’t accept awards… and you don’t have to… then take the nomination simply as a token of my appreciation.
Picking just a few is a near impossible task given the sheer scope of those to choose from! Especially as Seumas has already nabbed one or two who sprang to mind.
Some I will nominate are friends of mine away from the computer screen, which may seem a little unfair, but I have my reasons. Amongst those reasons I find more than enough to inspire me in both their lives and their work.
First up is a blog I found thanks to Adrian; its writer is George, a lady I will not get chance to know as well as I would like. She has a wicked sense of humour.
Running Elk posts rarely… not nearly enough… but he is always worth reading. And anyway, today is his birthday.
Alienora Taylor writes from the heart, sharing her own emotional journey, the negative and positive, to which many can relate and which I know has helped others to feel less isolated. She has also just published a rather controversial book, for which she has my admiration.
Benjamin Prewitt is an artist of no mean calibre and that would be enough to include him here… He is also outspoken in his quest to raise awareness of Parkinson’s Disease, having been himself diagnosed with young-onset PD.
Arash is a young man who suffered a spinal cord injury… his blog documents his determination to walk again; an attitude he shares with my son, who is also a continual source of inspiration.
Ali Isaac weaves tales of myth and legend… but explore the tabs on her website and you will find her own story and that of her daughter.
‘Beth’ says of herself that she is “the mother of grown daughters, with grandchildren galore, an enthusiastic dater, a lover of the arts, a teacher, a cupcake maker, a Twister and Trivia champ, and most of all, a keen observer of life.” Enough said!

Kevin Morris and his dog Trigger are a special pair… Kevin is a writer, Trigger is his guide dog. He is hoping to create an anthology of work in support of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Marilyn is a well known and tireless blogger, with a pithy turn of phrase and an unstable spine. She has faced her own health problems with her sleeves rolled up.
Fransi brings her own clear vision to life and I have yet to visit her blog and be disappointed.
Jean named her site well… she has a knack for getting peple talking.
Head on over to Buster‘s page for humour from both canine and human perspective.
Paul gets my vote for poetry, along with Richard. And Mike, though his humour is not always for the fainthearted.
And last but not least, Eilis… a talented young woman who brings poetry and music to her blog.

Is there any other way? I do the same… hell, I wouldn’t have time for anything else with the volume I’m writing these days between the blog and other stuff.

Really! I always thought writers had a jolly good think then put a skeleton together then wrote it up etc. Then again I am bonkers and if the truth be told failed O level English first sitting back in the day – failed most things I must add!

I know, I get an inferiority complex when other writers talk about writing plans, and stuff like that. I just write.
The published books get a through edit, of course…in fact, several… but mainly for typos and layout. \
I imagine there will be reviews that say ‘could do better’… 🙂

‘Could do better’ – generally the best thing ever said on my school reports! I got (true this is) ‘moron’ once! Mind it was a long time ago and the teacher was a fierce Yorkshireman!
