I’m bored. She’s not playing. She hasn’t been playing for the past few days. Just running round looking at clocks and calendars and muttering about dates. She’s up to something. I can tell.
Me, I’m reduced to stalking flies…Even the postman doesn’t come and play on a Sunday…
The best I’m getting is if she sits at the desk with a coffee… if I stick the ball on the shelf at her knees and wait, she notices eventually… and if she doesn’t I’ll sing to her till she does. Then she’ll throw it. If all else fails I can drop it on the velvet she’s sewing, or on the painting on the table… that usually gets her attention… but she squeals at me. I’m not sure she’s entirely happy about that…. And the ball keeps going funny colours…
It starts as soon as we’ve had our morning cuddle, long before breakfast… mine, anyway.. she’s boring, she only has coffee…nothing I can share…And it goes on till sometime next morning when I’ve been asleep for a good while.
Now, don’t get me wrong, she’s not altogether ignoring me. She talks to me while she’s doing stuff. Trouble is, half the time the past few days it has been, ‘Ani… no!’ and ‘Don’t you dare…’
‘S a bit unfair really. I’m only trying to take an interest. There are some really interesting smells coming out of the kitchen! And then yesterday there were clouds of this white, sweet stuff… Honest. I know your human noses wouldn’t notice the stuff, but it was like walking through a sugar mist for me…And she wouldn’t even let me in the kitchen! Even fed me in the living room! How unfair is that?
Mind you, I’m pretty certain she’s lost the plot, you know. I mean, we have a garden full of flowers, and she’s been in the kitchen making them all morning instead of out in the sunshine. Wonder if she’s going to plant them? I’ve always liked gardening…
The only time I can get all her attention, really, is when she’s at the computer. I have my ways. I can climb on her knee whether she likes it or not. And if I’m stood on her, she can’t do anything except notice me. The other way is pretty useful too… wait till her hand is on the mouse thingy… then stand up, holding myself up on her arm with both paws. That gets her.
But honestly, people… a mouse? This thing is dead plastic… not warm, furry and fun to chase….
You’ve got some weird ideas, really, people. Sugar flowers, plastic mouses, flat pictures of beautiful places or faces of your people …What’s wrong with the real ones? The flowers don’t smell right (though I wouldn’t mind tasting.. just to check…) You can’t play with a plastic mouse and you know, you can’t snuggle a picture, now can you?
‘N when I visit with Gooch there’s a box thingy in the corner. At first I thought it had little people in it, cause it talks all the time… but a good sniff proved it was just another picture… one that lights up. I wondered why we had the black box thing in the corner… ours never lights up though, unless she’s poorly… .then she just falls asleep in front of it. At least I get cuddles then.
Hmm, the kettle’s on… she must be due a cuppa. That means I get milk too…she’s quite well trained for a human… and she might even sit down to drink this one…cuddle time.
I think she needs it.
Catch you later.
Much love,
