Tears and coffee

dogs

You know things are on the right track when you manage to cut a large perfect circle, to a specific size, from expensive silk freehand. Of course, whether it remains that way once sewn is a different kettle of fish altogether. But all being well, just that to do and a final robe to finish and I am then done with the glorious colours and back to black velvet and straight seams. Those I can handle.

So I am taking a break for coffee and a biscuit before getting on with the final phase tonight. Mind, it would help if I actually put the kettle on to boil, wouldn’t it, instead of just writing about it? Excuse me a moment….

Better. Duly armed with coffee and cookies. Which the dog wants to share.

Do I ask to share her bones? No. Would she let me? Well, yes, possibly, to be fair… in exchange for cookies.

It has been an odd day. Busy nonstop, with visiting dogs and humans, unexpected sunshine and some lovely conversations. A bit of laughter and a few tears. Not bad ones though. Some lovely words of support… I’ve mentioned kindness gets me every time… and a poem.

I posted one of mine that was read by another writer, Paul F. Lenzi. It stirred memory and love and he too wrote, of his own mother’s hands. Reading Paul’s words had me in tears. The poem is called ‘Per Sempre nel Mio Cuore’ and you can read it here.

There have been some wonderful responses that have touched me deeply, and that, perhaps, is the single best reason for writing a blog. This is not a sterile environment, but a place where there can be real communication between writer and reader. Ideas can be shared, thoughts and feelings in real time conversation. Relationships are built. The writer is no longer an isolated figure far from the reader, known only by a posed photograph and short bio paragraph on a dust jacket. The writer is very much alive and there is a flow of thought and emotion between writer and reader.

But to touch someone with your words so that they lay their own heart and love bare for the world to see is beautiful and precious thing. I can think of few greater gifts a writer could be given.

And so I wept.

  2. You blog, always, with your heart. Not with an ‘over-emotional female’ heart (obviously, no insult intended), but with a heart emotionally strong, caring, compassionate, and filled to overflowing with humanity. It’s something that shines through even your saddest and most troubled posts. I’m sure I am not the only follower who feels honoured that you share so much. xxxxx

  3. I agree Sue. Writing is such a solitary practice. The need for quiet and alone time is essential. Yet it can feel as if we are in a vacuum. The comments and open sharing is so powerful. And occasionally I will meet someone that never comments on my blog posts but begins to tell how they deeply effect them. True writers have to write….it is in their genetics or their soul or both. Glad we have a forum via blogging.

Both, I think.. there is a need to write, whether we understand it or not. But we are only writers if we are read.. and that personal contact with readers who are writers, artists, poets… that is just so special.

I love the community here – in fact, so often, I write a blog instead of ‘highjacking” the comments area – there are so many posts that inspire me and lead my mind down roads long ago traveled and about which, now, I simply must write…
