The picture was taken a couple of weeks ago at Kilpeck Church in Herefordshire. The South Door is just one of the incredible treasures of this tiny, 800 year-old church whose exterior is covered with with truly fantastic carvings.
Drawing back the cowl of his habit, he raised his eyes, sweeping the sinuous lines with an approving gaze. The stonework was as precise as the illuminations of the precious Book. To one who knew the language of images, the message was clear.
“They’ll never understand, Brother.” The stonemason took a swig of ale and wiped his mouth on his sleeve.
“Think you not?”
“They’ll see only splendour… then they’ll forget…
hey will never understand.”and one day, they’ll see only dragons and strange beasts.” The monk smiled and shook his head.
“There will always be those who know the language of the heart.”

Thank you Sue! Great entries again!
