Photo prompt round-up – Roses #writephoto

This week’s photo prompt of a few faded roses inspired  such diverse entries! I have reblogged as many as possible and include a link to all the entries below. Thank you to everyone who took part, read, shared and commented.

Please click the links to read any you have missed and perhaps discover new blogs! If you have written a post for the prompt and it does not appear here, please let me know in the comments so that I can include it here.

I am posting the round-up a little earlier than usual as I have the workshop this weekend which is keeping me busy. A new photo prompt will follow tomorrow…

Forever Roses

She sucks the blood from her finger, grateful for the protection of denim jeans as she kneels; the ancient rafters are full of splinters. Breaking the brittle sealing wax, there is a glimpse of faded yellow within. How long has the box lain here undiscovered?

The fragile beauty of the roses takes her by surprise. One bloodied finger delicately touches ancient petals. They crumble into dust and she breathes the fragrance of a forgotten summer…

The smell of new wood is sharp in the air. What was she looking for? She gathers up the yellow silk of her skirts… He would soon be here…
