I helped him eat his Christmas lunch,
The turkey turned out well,
The kitchen, redolent by noon,
With its delicious smell.
The Yorkshire pud all fluffy
And the roasties golden brown…
When asked if I was going to share
I couldn’t turn him down…
The Christmas pud was boozy
Full of cherries, steeped in brandy
… He thought a pint of custard
Might just well come in handy…
I’d baked a batch of fresh mince pies
Before the sun was rising
And with the sausage rolls I’d made,
The rest was not surprising…
I ate the after-dinner mints
As peppermint was needed
To combat overeating
And the calories exceeded.
Though Christmas comes but once a year
For tastebuds it’s a riot,
But come new year, I guess
That I’ll be going on a diet 😉
It’s one time a year. Enjoy.

Christmas is always a time that we overeat and let go of self imposed restrictions.

That is no bad thing, once in a while 😉

I am salivating and thinking of leftovers . . .

I know!One day’s mild over-indulgence equals months of abstinence… so unfair 😉

I have to admit my over-indulgence was not really mild 🙂 But still. And there are still leftovers which can’t be wasted.

Out dinner guests couldn’t make it at the last minute so there was so much food for just the two of us (and a dog). My jeans feel a bit tight today. Oh well, pass the trifle.

Ooh… I forgot to make trifle… 😦

There should be NO guilt for the Christmas feast! And the leftovers can feed you for a week!
I made a figgy pudding this year- way too sweet – will try a Christmas pud next year. Don’t worry about the lbs. You will walk it off – Ani will make sure of that!

To be fair, I didn’t eat all that much… just more than I’m used to 😉

It was low-key fun but we were sooooooo glad to be home, put the kettle on, put our feet up and not move for a couple of hours. 🙂

The good news is that all but the Christmas cake and 2 small pudding have gone. The bad news is we ate them all!

I didn’t even make a Christmas cake this year, but I blame Nick for the huge pudding we had to eat between us 😉

I cheated and bought mine. We are discovering more and more of Hubby’s favourite foods are triggers for reflux, so after New Year, we will not be having so much.

I would too, these days… and not so much for similar reasons 😉

First, love the cartoon. It well describes my birds. Second, everyone seems to be able to find or make mince pie except me. No one sells them, at least not here in the Blackstone Valley. The price of buying mince online is very expensive. I used to make fruitcake, but the amount of dried fruit I needed got to be a bit pricey. More than a bit. But Garry LOVES mince pie and fruitcake — and we can’t get either one!

That’s terrible! You have to have mince pies at Christmas!
For the fruit cake though, I have a much cheaper recipe, passed down from my great granny…https://wp.me/p1wss8-gLo

Oh my, Sue, this is just so funny. I never overeat, I am afraid, not even at Christmas time. I am such a disciplined soldier.

Overeating for me doesn’t take much as I tend to eat very little… so a full meal was way too much 😉
