She had reached the end of her patience. She won’t take another day of this miserable existence, she told herself. Here her life lay barren and cold. Nothing to show for all the years of compromise and bending her will to that of others. Alone still and waiting for some sort of recognition of her sacrifices!

Looking out the window, the vista matched perfectly with what she was feeling inside. She felt the gloomy surroundings making her mood even worse. She turned away from the living room window and was distracted by the picture frame sitting on the table. It was that of her with her husband when they had moved to this house so many years ago.
