Silent running

Homework cartoon

At some point during the second-coffee hours of this morning, the computer will join the rest of my household, concealed within the anonymity of a cardboard box and join the merry stream that flows towards my new home today.

The internet will quietly close its portal to this other world and it will not reopen until a line is installed at that new home.

Which, according to the latest estimate, will be in around ten days.

Ten days???

On the up side, this gives me ten days in which to organise the new space,  and attempt to create order from the chaos of boxes… whilst also attempting to convince Ani that she can actually walk on slippery hard flooring…

On the down side…

…withdrawal symptoms.

I won’t even get to see how the voting went at the Blogger’s Bash!

But…all is not lost! I have a laptop! It has 4G…

Of course… the village has absolutely no signal for anything at all…so it won’t do me much good.

But my son doesn’t live in the village … and he has wi-fi… and I go there every day. Ha!

So, I’ve left a few posts. The phone occasionally picks up a signal…and there are brief, daily possibilities…

The provider might even be able to install the line quicker… !

Who am I kidding…

See you on the other side 🙂

  1. Good luck with your move. After initial withdrawal, you’ll be so busy, you’ll hardly notice … well, not as much as you think. Have fun!

Good luck with the floors Ani, Charlie absolutely hated wooden floors, get Sue to put down lots of interlocking rugs. Good luck with the internet Sue. I guess your provider has technicians walking from Bulgaria to connect you. The Chinese could build a 20 floor apartment block in 10 days and connect every apartment to the internet. Your other option is go absolutely device free for at least 5 days and discover more of the amazing world that you live in.

I want to wish you good luck with your move, but this post makes me so sad for two reasons:
    1. TEN Sueless days?
    2. You’re not going to Blogger Bash? I was SO SO much hoping to meet you at last.

  8. I feel your pain. And the anxiety about disconnecting. But, it’s all good. The new digs will meet up with that firefox soon enough. And you might enjoy the breather. ☺

  11. Good luck Sue, been there did that. Don’t worry too much, here in South Florida when you move there is still a wait to get connected. The difference is; if you call a month in advance the installer will be at the new place the next day. It’s the packing and unpacking that did me in. I’m getting too old for that. Have a safe move and may it be as pleasant as possible.

A move can be such a great thing ~ a breath of fresh air, something to bring in new experiences 🙂 The way I bounce around with work, this is the attitude I’ve had to take. Hope the move goes smoothly, and also from experience in China where WP is blocked, time away from blogging community just makes the heart grow fonder. Wish you well Sue ~

I have come to realize that one may not miss the internet if there are more important or interesting things to do. I was back home for five weeks and was deliberately not connected to the internet but I did not miss it at all because I was surrounded by family and friends and had many things to catch up with. I hope you do not have serious withdrawals issues 🙂

  26. WordPress just notified me of this post. Are you moved in then? These WP-created time warps are unsettling.
