Technological nightmares – the bald facts

ani 003

The PC keeps crashing, it’s driving me batty,
Poor internet service is making me ratty…
It keeps dropping out, every time that I’m on it.
The dog seems to think I’ve a bee in my bonnet
So she’s keeping well out of the workstation corner…
I think it’s the cursing that started to warn her.
My smart phone is dumb, won’t do more than make calls…
I can’t access email… I’m climbing the walls
As I keep losing layouts and can’t keep in contact…
This ether-based silence was not in the contract!
The laptop is dead, and refuses to work
I’ve checked all the places its charger could lurk
But the ruddy thing’s missing, I’ve searched everywhere…
It must have evaporated, it’s not there.
The only things working are WordPress and Twitter
…and gmail, of course, and the irony’s bitter…
If its Google-related my browser can’t cope
And I’m rapidly losing my last shreds of hope.
I know that the inboxes are overflowing
I can’t do a thing, and the way this is going
My usual patience is starting to wear out…
I’ll be bald by midnight from tearing my hair out…!

Oh heck. Still causing you frustration and hair loss. That’s bad. You should be able to get a charger for the lap[top off ebay or at any computer shop if that will solve your problem temporarily.
I’m having problems with Google Chrome too., it seems Java and chrome don’t get along so anything you need Java to see won’t work if you use chrome.I also seem to be dropping out of the internet a lot though I usually blame the computer or my ISP, maybe they’re not the problem after all. Trouble is, I like chrome or at least I did.
I hope you find a solution soon Sue while you still have some of that beautiful hair.

Thanks, David. The charger is already ordered 🙂 Meanwhile Firefox seems the most stable option on this machine… but I fear that, newish or not, it needs an overhaul… and probably a new ISP too! xxx

Been there, ripped it out (both cables and hair). Great pacing and rhyme, too even if the subject matter matters me shudder

You need to shut everything down, and go for a walk. That’s what I do, and by the time you get back, nothing seems quite so important any more…

  6. Oh, I can really sympathise with you Sue. I get so frustrated at technology and the fact that it has a mind of its own. I hope you manage to get it sorted out soon 🙂

Technology woes spell the need of a long walk with Ani. She might have tried to suggest it, but you probably weren’t listening! ;-D

  12. Oh, no, a computer disaster is enough to make you tear your hair out. I usually call Dell and talk to someone in India who takes over the screen but you pay. Worth it. Even that is nerve-wracking. Don’t know if that would solve your problem or if you have that option.

Good luck with it all!! And hope you are soon up and running smoothly again! xx ellen

  13. Just come out of the “nightmare valley” of having no proper internet connection, so I can only sympathise with you, Sue. To think that 20 years ago none of this was around, and it was the non-arrival of a first class stamped envelope that would stress us out when the postman failed to deliver it.

Fingers (and paws) are crossed for you that it will be sorted soon.

  14. Great poem, I love it! I think we all have this love/hate relationship with our technology. I drives us mad but somehow we can’t cope without it now. I do feel for you with regard to the emails; I have so many that some just don’t get opened. If I didn’t clear them every day, it would get impossible. I hope you get sorted soon.
P.S. I bought one of your books the other day; ‘Sword of Destiny’. Looking forward to it

I certainly feel lost without mine! The emails come in thick and fast too… even a morning out will see me coming back to a hundred or so as a rule…
And thank you. I hope you enjoy the book!
