It’s just at the moment when everything’s manic,
The clock’s ticking fast and you’re starting to panic,
Repeating your lines while the iron is steaming
And even for god’s sake, when sleeping and dreaming…
That things unexpected will creep up and bite you
And minor disasters are starting to smite you.
Your email’s gone down and you’ve run out of milk
And you’re cursing the Microsoft men and their ilk,
The sewing machine has got all in a tangle
You fend off the dog and feel put through the mangle…
Both eyes swollen shut when you need to look decent
There’s glue in your hair and it’s probably recent.
The dog has acquisitive eyes on the cake
You’ve been trying all morning to get on and make;
The phone won’t stop ringing, you’re in a muck sweat
Your throat’s closing up, but there’s days to go yet…
Well, not many really for after tomorrow
What doesn’t get done, you will beg, steal or borrow
The fumes from the glue make you feel a bit heady
But out in the kitchen the cake’s nearly ready.
The wine glass looks tempting, but better not risk it,
Just stick to the coffee and maybe a biscuit….
Around you is mayhem, you’re buzzing inside…
This weekend will be just one hell of a ride!
But you’re going to make it… one more day ahead
So put down the cup and get working instead!
