I’m up to my eyeballs in jelly and cream
But please don’t be fooled,
Things are not what they seem…
The tree may be sparkly
And girdled with light
I’m not in the mood
For this festive delight!
The turkey, bought late,
Is still hard in its ice,
The trifle won’t set
Though no doubt it tastes nice…
The dog wants the chocolates
Wrapped under the tree
And I’m cooking for everyone
Other than me!
I can’t drink the wine
With the antibiotics
I could get depressed
But I’ll stick with neurotic..
The mistletoe’s wasted
The dog killed the holly
But other than that
Everything looks quite jolly!
Adeste Fideles
Is playing full blast
Give me half an hour
And I’ll finish at last
With cooking and cleaning
For all I am worth..
I’m SURE I heard something
About Peace on Earth!
I’ve screwed up the sellotape,
Used the last label,
The candles and napkins
Are laid on the table,
The dog’s done a runner
Curled up in a corner..
The serious cursing
Did something to warn her..
I just want a bath
And a nice cup of tea
And someone to one day
Make Christmas for me!

5 Stollen cooling on the counter, 1 pound cake in the oven, 3 lbs of peanut butter candy in the fridge, and fruit ready for the salad. Earliest I’ve ever finished up wrapping on a Christmas Eve.
