Gary Vasey, my co-author on The Mystical Hexagram (Datura Press) Has just released his new novel, The Last Observer published by Roundfire Books and available on Amazon.
I was lucky enough to read the story, chapter by chapter, as it was born… and was constantly nagging for the next instalment!
How would you feel if the reality you knew as intimately as your own thoughts was suddenly brought into question? If, in fact, you became aware that the two were inextricably linked, not just within the confines of your imagination, but in actuality? And if you could begin to understand this strange, unsettling concept, what would you do when it was borne upon you that someone wanted to hijack that reality, twisting it for their own ends and putting more at risk than your life?
Such is the position in which Stanley finds himself. He is just an ordinary man, a loner with a vivid imagination who finds himself dragged into an unfamiliar world where those who share his talent are disappearing in inexplicable and violent circumstances. In a strange and unexpected encounter, Stanley meets Edward, and the dangerous adventure begins.
At the centre of this deadly web is the enigmatic figure of Zeltan, drawing in the human threads to weave a tapestry that could rewrite history. Dr Vasey’s intimate knowledge of the world of ritual magic is used to dramatic effect as its darker side mirrors the twisted mind of Zeltan, painting a vivid and harrowing picture of the abuse of the potential of the mind.
In `The Last Observer’ Dr Vasey explores the nature of reality and the human mind. With his usual incisive style he exposes the knife edge where ego and ambition pave the road to a personal hell and highlights the illusions under which we live, both in regard to the manifested world we see around us and our role within it.
This slim volume packs a thought provoking punch and is an addictive read. The fast paced story leads the reader through the twists and turns of the plot with a feel of being caught within the story. As indeed we are.
Do not look for magic wands, happy ever afters and fairytales within the book’s covers. The Last Observer hits home at the point where science and magic meet and will leave you questioning the nature of your own reality and your place within it.
Gary writes of the book:
“Quantum physics (don’t go away, I won’t bore you with too much detail) has been trying to unravel reality for quite some time now and what physicists have discovered is simply mind-boggling. The brain is presented with much more information than you can use so it dumbs it down. It chooses what to present to your consciousness and it does so moments after what you are observing took place. Imagine that! In fact, everything is vibration or, put in a more scientific way; it is all waves of different wavelengths. Quantum physics shows that waves can be particles and particles can be waves – the decider of whether wave or particle is the observer – you. The act of observing by a consciousness ‘collapses the waveform’ into particles.
What does this mean? It means that you continuously create your reality and that you interact there with other co-creators of reality. Yes – it is all a sort of matrix and that is a scientific fact. How you feel, how you are raised, how you speak, what you say, what you think and a myriad of other inputs determine your reality from moment to moment. Isn’t that the work of a magician? Don’t you make magic every instant of your life?
Imagine what you could do if you were truly a conscious being and not operating more or less on autopilot much of the time? Maybe you could make things change via force of will and imagination. It’s all about your imagination you know. Maybe it isn’t so much faith that can move mountains as it is about imagination and faith in that imagining. If you have come across ‘cosmic ordering’ or The Secret, then you have been exposed to a rather crude and materialistic form of this concept. It is by the way, no secret, it has been known by occultists and magicians for thousands of years.
In my new fantasy thriller novel I use these ideas to create a compelling story about reality and magic.”
Thoroughly recommended!

this looks great, and thanks so much for sharing. i have a friend who is a scientist. we meet for breakfast once a month to discuss quantum physics, energy, time, time travel, etc. i am absolutely fascinated by all of the possibilities. he recommended that i see the movie, ‘what the &*^%$ do we know,’ starring marlie matlin. it’s a bit dated and some parts are kind of dumb ,but the interviews and concepts discussed are fascinating. look it up if you haven’t seen it, you might enjoy it. ) beth

Thanks Beth, I haven’t come across that. Though a friend did send Ani a good book on the subject.. ‘How to teach your dog Quantum Physics’ by Chad Orzel… informative and good fun 🙂
