Nerves of steel…???

A small plane just flew low over the house and made me think of my sons with a certain amount of nervousness. You’d think I’d be used to it by now. The pair of them have, between them, tested my nerves over the years; they have fed and cuddled huge tigers, spent quality time with wolves, jumped off tower cranes and done aerobatics. They have gone down mountains on bikes and skateboards, and spent a fair bit of time in the emergency rooms of various hospitals. One rides a high powered motorbike on a daily basis, the other has tested my nerves to the max through no fault of his own.

No worries then...

Alex…No worries then…

You’ll know his story, but it bears repeating under the circumstances. Nick was stabbed through the brain in a random attack in 2009. He was left in a coma for dead and, though he chose to survive and fight back, for the past five years the physical and emotional challenges he has faced, being unable to walk, being partially sighted and facing many other hurdles as he works towards recovery have been pretty grim. His younger brother Alex, has been with him every step of the way. I am so proud of my sons… more than I could ever say.

And now they are going to jump out of an aeroplane.

The ‘nerves of steel’ … it’s called wishful thinking…I’m going to need them!

Nick... where there's a wheel there's a way...

Nick… where there’s a wheel there’s a way…

Wheelchair or not, the pair of them will be skydiving in a few weeks’ time, to raise money on behalf of the Make A Wish Foundation, a charity that grants the wishes of children who are facing a life threatening condition and make their dreams come true.

…while I sit on the ground watching the pair of them fall a mile or so out of the sky at 120miles an hour.

They will be trying to raise as much money for the charity as they can and will be looking for sponsorship from anyone who can or will help… it is a very special charity. So… no doubt you will be hearing more. The acknowledgement came through for the booking, 8am on August 10th…so they have set up a Donation page for anyone who can help with sponsorship, spreading the word or sharing their story. Please help if you can.

In the meantime… spare a thought for my nerves…..

Brilliant, Sue! Great to hear this – though, as a mother, I can totally empathise with your feelings. Count me in on the support front. I’ll click on the link later today. xxx
