Well, finally…

UntitledI thought I’d done pretty well. I’d been busily scheduling posts for my projected and unavoidable absence for some time, between  bouts of packing for the house move. By the time I finally put the PC in the car along with the kettle, I had something scheduled for every one of the days I would be offline and heaved a sigh of relief. A few days unable to get online would be quite handy while I got the new place organised.

Then my service provider changed the goal posts and the few expected days became a little longer…

Three weeks. Three whole weeks… with such a lot to tell and no internet… just the odd moments where I could hijack a connection on my phone. There isn’t much of a signal for anything in the village and the new place is worse for that than the old. Even my brand new internet connection is slower than it used to be… and that takes some doing!

The various inboxes don’t bear thinking about… and three weeks’ worth of correspondence to attend to is enough to make you want to hide under the bed…except, it is stuffed with boxes under there still…

Personally, I think it is all a plot. First, they drive customers mad with frustration, then dangle fibre internet before harassed eyes… which is even more expensive, but promises unheard-of speed. Yet, in spite of my ardent desire to succumb to their all-too-transparent blandishments, fibre is apparently unavailable until after they have expensively installed this new slow line… which will be surplus to requirements as soon as fibre is installed…

The joys of technology… and the tortuous path we are forced to walk if we want to avail ourselves of it!

Still, I finally appear to be back online, comfortably ensconced in my new home and reconnected to the wider world.

My thanks for your patience with the delays in answering comments and emails… I’ll be doing my best to catch up… but first, I have to go to work before I can come back and get to work… finally!

  5. Glad you are up and running. How’s the new home? How’s Ani? How’s your son? Don’t worry about catching up…if you are like me that’s a futile endeavor.

The new home is petite but perfect 🙂 Ani is lovng the place, though wary of the cows. The sons are fine, though one is now a shorn sheep, having left his locks at the hairdressers. I’ll catch up what I can and must… and consign the rest to the recycling. I’d never catch up everything… 🙂

Bienvenue,or souhait d’un bon retour chaleureux, I think English has the best solution here simply welcome back. Its great to have you back our friend. No one would envy the amount of welcomes you receive considering the work you have to catch up with. The Goddess is by you.So one more time a VERY BIG WELCOME BACK, you were never really absent and I felt it.

  9. The situation vis-a-vis fibre is almost identical here, too, though it is complicated by the fact that our town managers gave an exclusive contract to one provider, which mean we can’t connect to the faster lines available right in front of the house. I try not to think about it.

I’m glad you finally are connected. That must be a big relief.

Consider a mass delete on all that mail. Sometimes, it’s the healthy alternative to going crazy 🙂 Welcome back!

Given that there were thousands accumulated over the past three weeks, a large scale delete was the only option…though I had to filter them first…
Some very odd ways of working with the ISPs… but I’m saying nothing today 🙂

I forget – here in on the US east coast, where wi fi is literally everywhere and fast – that this isn’t the situation for a lot of people. I got frustrated in Germany when we stayed at a place with no wi-fi. So I welcome that big, yellow happy face and am glad you are BACK!

Oh so am I, Noelle! Here it is very hit and miss. I live quite close to London, but my village straddles a poor reception area for almost all of the technological miracles we take for granted… though there is a wire waiting to be connected for fibre… so I am hopeful for the near future!
