Self published, traditionally published or unpublished… is that how we should define a writer? Talent might be a better criteria, don’t you think?

I ABSOLUTELY agree!!! Some of the garbage I have seen from publishing houses is just as bad as some of the garbage I have seen from self published authors – – – – and some of the self published authors are better than many of the publishing house authors. They are probably getting their funding for the contest from publishing houses…… :-{

That is, I fear, exactly the problem, Leiah…. and I agree, talent doesn’t always get the right packaging, either way.

Yep. And the whole ‘packaging’ thing is so very hard for self published authors like yourself!

It is… and a bit of a vicious circle when the books have to pay for themselves.

Yep. And money is still tight for most of us these days. I now I was just looking at a couple authors with new books coming out, and I can’t afford their prices.

I know that the colour printing on the paperback versions of our books makes them far more expensive than we would like .. And there is no royalty built into them at all. We offer them only for those who prefer paper. That unfortunately is a createspace issue and out of our hands.

I completely understand. I have handled the whole process for certain clients, from editing to posting, cover design, and createspace. It can really add up. The books that I am talking about that are so expensive are Publishing House books – one of the many reasons I tend to stick to self publishers like you. Amazon really does pretty much have a lock on the whole thing, don’t they? I have heard rumblings of the Federal Commission looking at them for taking over the market and creating a monopoly on everything . . . it is interesting to follow.

A petition was sent in by major authors about the monopoly.. Be interesting to see where it leads.

I wouldn’t worry what a Murdock paper thinks. I enjoyed your story you should enter it in another competition
