I love flowers… who doesn’t? And roses are amongst my favourites. I have many stories to share about roses… from the deep, red ones with thick, velevety petals that used to grow around my great grandmother’s gate, to the flower bed full of roses delivered, with their roots on, as gifts from dear friends.
I could tell you of the bouquet of red roses delivered to my door with champagne … or of the three roses, two in full bloom, one in bud, that were placed in my hand when my son was born by the friend who would be his godfather.
Roses seem to have a special meaning for many people. Perhaps it is the ‘snare of perfume’ they wrap around our hearts, or the glimpse of perfection in theirs.
Yet for me, none are lovelier than this, a simple wild rose, found in an English hedgerow.
I was asked to join this challenge by El of Far Out in Africa. If you haven’t been over there, do have a look. Wonderful pictures and stories!
In turn, today, should she choose to accept… I nominate Colleen of Silver Threading.
The rules of Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge are:
1) Post a photo each day for five consecutive day
2) Attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or a short paragraph. It’s entirely up to the individual.
3) Nominate another blogger to carry on the challenge. Your nominee is free to accept or decline the invitation. This is fun, not a command performance!

I love roses too and always know spring is definitely here in the mountains when our climbing variety cover the walls. Lovely photo by Sue Vincent.

Ah, for me it’s ‘the little white rose of Scotland/that smells sharp and sweet – and breaks the heart.’

Well, I have to agree with that… though it is the white rose of Yorkshire in my case… 😉

I love hedge roses. In one of my homes — my first house, actually — I remember ordering 60 rose stems — hedge stems in dark pink. They were with us until we moves away.
