We walked up the hill before the dawn, a silent procession through the sleeping village. Cloaked figures led the way to the gate. No-one spoke, none broke a silence kept in vigil. Until the lamb looked at us and greeted us thrice with its plaintive cry.
Eyes met in smiling wonder and a moment’s magic none of those present will forget.
As we approach this year’s annual workshop, I cannot read even what I myself wrote back then without a smile and the tales shared by the Companions who walked with us that day are very dear to us.
This poem was written by Kevin Patrick and dedicated to all those who attended the Birthing of the Silent Eye. Somehow, it seemed appropriate to post it again today for Good Friday.
The Lamb
I am a Lamb, at least,
That is what I am told those strange creatures –humans- know us by.
But today was a special day, I could tell!
The first hints of dawn were calling me to graze.
– As the Creator Wills –
But I snuggled close still to my mum.
The dew was still upon the grass of the fields.
As diamond points of creation upon the Land.
But a sudden impulse caused me to rise.
I’m glad I did.
As, a strange company floated by.
Strange that is – as seen by most human eyes.
Leading their company, were those dressed in the bright colours of the ‘One’.
And behind, were other bright souls, a flock, ready to dance and greet him.
Just like when this world was first created.
My heart leapt with joy, they understood!
Shaking off the remnants of my sleep
I rushed forward.
Look, Look, I shouted!
He comes.
As the Hawk of the Morning flew overhead.
The Flame of the ‘One’ blazed into Life.
A New Day had begun
I laughed and shouted with Joy
As the rays of His Love and Light fell upon us all.
-‘Us’ Lambs – you know we have been so Blessed.
We have been at the beginning of things, at many a time.
And will be for all Eternity.
So my mum says.
It was good to see you there.
So the next time you see me.
Please – Say Hello!
