New Beginnings

The Silent Eye Press is a brand new venture taking its first steps into the world. The Silent Eye School of Consciousness launches to the esoteric world in 2013. There will, inevitably, be books and papers to be published, both in traditional and electronic format. It makes sense to publish them ourselves as the School itself will be run on a strictly non profit basis.

So, as if I have nothing else on my plate at present, I am following a long held dream of working with books. Granted, there are no shelves of musty tomes and dark, cobwebbed corners here, but all dreams should be allowed to evolve.

Silent Eye Press will operate completely independently from the School although the two are closely entwined in many ways. The Press will seek to promote understanding of the varied approaches to esoteric thought, mysticism and spirituality through works of fiction and non-fiction alike.

The books themselves will not necessarily represent the viewpoint nor the opinions of the School, but will, we hope, become an eclectic collection of the many facets of thought in today’s esoteric community. In building this collection with respect and understanding, I hope the ethos of the Silent Eye School will be reflected.

Gordon Strong, author of many books of esoteric thought, such as “The Way of Magic” as well as fantastic and humorous fiction, has graciously agreed to allow Silent Eye Press to publish his latest work, “The History of the Golden Dawn” with cover art by Matt Baldwin-Ives.

A first glimpse…..

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn stands firmly rooted in esoteric  history as one of the great founts of knowledge and the birthplace of much that is considered as the basis of modern magic. Much has been written and from many viewpoints, from the scholarly to the fantastic about the Order and the name is known to anyone with even the most minimal acquaintance with magic.

Founded by William Wynn Westcott , William Robert Woodman  and Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers in the late 19th Century, many prominent occultists of the past hundred years passed through its illustrious portals of have their roots nourished by the seeds of its inception.

In his new book, “The History of the Golden Dawn “, renowned author Gordon Strong casts his own unique garment of words around the shoulders of history.

Gordon Strong writes from the perspective of the Magician. He is deeply versed in the theory of magic, but unlike many writers, his interest does not end with the intellect, for he lives and breathes a magical life and works with the inner forces beyond the surfaces of the mundane world.

This intimate knowledge allows the reader to take a very personal glimpse into the esoteric world that has provided the foundation of much of modern magic. The author here explores the dynamics of the relationships and characters of some prominent members of the Order, bringing them vividly to life.

We see how the intensity of these personalities melded to form a powerhouse of thought that echoes still across the century and more that has passed since its beginnings. We see, too, how it was the very strength and complexity of these characters that doomed the Order to an incandescent ending.

Alan Richardson, author of “The magical Life of Dion Fortune” and  “Aleister Crowley and Dion Fortune: The Logos of the Aeon and the Shakti of the Age” amongst many others, writes:

“The Golden Dawn, rightly named because it shone like a bright flame in Victorian England, is brought to dramatic life by Gordon Strong.  The real essence of this extraordinary Order is detailed with the knowledge and perception that only an experienced writer upon the occult is able to bring to his subject. “

The precise release date for “The History of the Golden Dawn”  by Gordon Strong will be announced shortly.
