Sunday 4rd October 2009 ..

Nick came home on Saturday for the day. He is still in the wheelchair (though that didn’t stop him dragging himself upstairs to much laughter to ‘chill’ with his brother ). He can stand in a frame, but not alone. Can transfer now to and from the wheelchair, eat without mess, though ungainly. His eyes are still crossed and his vision double. He needs further surgery to replace the joints in his jaw, it seems, which have fused and hamper his speech ( not that he ever shuts up!). His core strength and coordination are poor…

But hey! My son came home for the day! He himself is very much ‘all there’, he had us in fits of laughter all day and his progress continues daily.

His T shirt says it all… “If you can’t win, don’t play”. He intends to win.

The support he and we as a family have been blessed with is, in itself, miraculous and what you and he have achieved so far surpasses my wildest hopes for my son. And he’s not done yet

Thank you.

Still a very long way to go.. but look how far he has come already! If his eyes don’t uncross, it is possible that they may be able to repair them surgically and give him prismatic lenses for the double vision. The jaw can be surgically fixed with a prosthetic joint or a bone graft.. the rest seems to be taking care of itself with sheer determination and a lot of help and support!
