Diary entry 4/8/2009
Nick now has an alphabet board.. and his spelling, syntax, grammar and vocabulary appear to be perfect!
It takes him a while as his left hand is very shaky and imprecise and he has double vision so he gets one of us to cover one eye so he can focus.. which of course affects his depth perception.
He has complained about one of the night nurses failing to explain procedures he objects to, as though he cannot understand. Told us of a dream he had, and said,
“For the first few nights I thought about dying, it was all too much. That’s why I said goodbye.”
Which broke my heart.
Some friends went to see him in the afternoon, and had the same idea. They had diligently written out the alphabet for him. Nick casually spelled out, “Thanks, but I have already been doing this all morning”. And he laughed.
He has now been told what has happened over the past few weeks, and about all the wonderful people who have been there for him and for us all. Nick has asked me to say something to you all:
” Please, tell them thank you.”
