Announcing the WINNERS of the Sue Vincent Rodeo Classic at the Carrot Ranch

When the doctors told me that the cancer had spread to my brain, they also told me that I did not have long left…’days to weeks’ were their words. At this point, the wonderful folks at the Carrot Ranch wrote to tell me about the Rodeo, the competition and what they hoped to achieve.

The response was phenomenal.

I cannot stress how much it meant to see all the good wishes coming in… to watch my sons hold themselves up with pride because it seems as if my work has touched other lives in such a positive manner. And, while my body continues to fall apart, my heart is full.
On a practical note, the donations that came in have helped enormously with the cost of specialised equipment.

Who knew how expensive this dying malarkey can be? In search of decent few hours sleep for the first time in ages, yesterday I had a new chair delivered that allows me to stand to get into the wheelchair. As my left leg no longer moves, this is a real gift. And I slept in it for hours…

I did not expect to be here today to be able to thank everyone who took part in any and every way, from buying, reading and reviewing the books, to the entries and donations and the love and kindness I have been shown.

When the Rodeo came to town, Rough Writers from around the world answered the call. You came, you sat in the saddle, you rode the bull, and you joined the parade.

Most important, you were inspired by our wonderful friend, Sue Vincent. Sue has been battling terminal cancer, and we’re thrilled that she is around to see the winners (though I admit I cheated and let her know the top winner a little early). Participants were allowed and encouraged to donate to help Sue and her family, but we believe the photo she provided as the prompt was worthy of any prize. Her photo prompted 63 wonderful 99 word stories and 99 syllable poems; if the average picture is worth 1,000 words, then we can be certain her prompt is way above average!

About Sue Vincent

Sue Vincent was a Yorkshire born writer, esoteric teacher and a Director of The Silent Eye. She was immersed in the Mysteries all her life. Sue maintained a popular blog and is co-author of The Mystical Hexagram with Dr G.M.Vasey. Sue lived in Buckinghamshire, having been stranded there due to an accident with a blindfold, a pin and a map. She had a lasting love-affair with the landscape of Albion, the hidden country of the heart. Sue  passed into spirit at the end of March 2021.

    I’m not surprised by the outpouring of those who responded to this competition. What I’ve found in my two years of blogging is that this is a wonderfully supportive community filled with good people. I follow Norah and Chel, so I’m happy that their entries were chosen. While I did not submit an entry, I hope that you understand my appreciation for you as a writer, blogger, and human. I don’t know if it’s just a symptom of getting older or being retired, but I find myself thinking more about the responsibility we all share to make the world a little kinder and less judgmental. Thank you so much for setting such a high standard.

    Sleep is one of those gifts we don’t appreciate until it starts sneaking away. I’m so glad you managed to get in some good hours via your new equipment. And I’m thrilled that your sons can see how much we value you and your work. Sometimes it’s nice to be seen as more than just ‘Mum’. 🙂

    Such an outpouring of love comes your way it is mind-blowing, Sue… I have always thought about how kind and caring the blogging community is so many lovely souls but this outpouring of love and help has surpassed my expectations of a community… so pleased you could sleep in comfort and that your sons can stand tall knowing how very admired and loved you are…What a long-lasting legacy you are leaving…You will always be talked and written about with pride and love..my memories of you will be triggered by a special cheese sandwich until I to draw my last breath…Hugs xx
