She says it is fireworks season again…which means loads of pops, bangs and fizzes. Two-legses may like them… four-legses, not so much. I used to be really scared…
But I’m all growed up now and my two-legs is pretty well trained; she closes the curtains for me, puts the noisy box on to cover the bangs and makes sure I have somewhere safe and cosy to snuggle though I usually just hide sit under her desk to protect her..
She says most two-legses are pretty good about that sort of thing. But, just in case, there are loads of things you can do… so I thought I’d share the RSPCA’s advice video. You can visit their page here too for other creatures… like horses. They get nervous of everything anyway…I’m not even allowed to say hello to them… so fireworks must really spook them.

I was glad when my two legs came home yesterday…there were lots of them and I needed to cuddle her ( just to keep her safe, of course!) xx

I don´t like all those loud noises either. Mom and Dad keep me indoors where it’s safe. My friend, Patch hides in the shower. Here in Spain, there are fireworks all the time as there are many fiestas. Your friend, Dot

Why do fireworks have to be so noisy? I love the display of colours, but the terrible noise isn’t really necessary…

My dogs aren’t afraid of fireworks or thunder unless it is VERY loud. They just sleep through it. just as well because it isn’t fireworks season here, but it IS hunting season.

We are in prime deer hunting country. Hunters don’t always seem to realize that a house means PEOPLE and maybe other creatures live there and they should move away to a safer area. You can’t miss hunting season. You can hear the guns going off 7 days a week.

Ani tries to warn thunder off by barking at it. It is quite funny watching her, four paws firmly planted, telling it to go away and leave her airspace. 🙂

lmao – go Ani! Mogi is part chihuahua so she just hunkers down and quivers, literally. Poor little thing shakes so hard I worry she’ll break something. Cuddles help but she really is terrified.

Oh yeah…she’s actually smaller than Pippi, who’s a very small cat under all her fur. She has an odd relationship with the cats. They’re ‘her’ cats. She protects them from possums, foxes and strange ferals, and in return they love her and bully her. She doesn’t seem to mind. 🙂

We have out Thunder Jackets which help keep us calm, Ani. Wearing one sends Toby to sleep, while Austin tends to bark a lot at the noises. The boys turn the volume up on the TV and build us a den. We have great fun helping them make it.

Great you’re sharing this advice, Ani. I hope it helps lots of pets cope with them better. I’m OK. Mummy’s good like yours, and makes things as easy on us as she can. I’m not scared of them anyhow, but it’s still good she does. Besides, my little brother is scared of them. We’ve been getting lots already, and even with all Mummy does to help him, he gets quite upset. They keep the curtains closed, and we have noisy things happening in here, but he still gets upset and barks or whines – especially with the big ones. Takes lots of cuddles to calm him down. Lots of licks, Lilie

Sweet little Ani, you take such good care of her needs.
We had such a wicked storm last week, on Halloween night. My roommates dog burst into my room to get comforted from all the loud sounds. I just kept rubbing her ears and she eventually calmed down. I felt so bad for her.

Great move to post this, Ani and Sue. We always lock Beowulf and Grendel in, although they were in a real grot with us this year because we locked them in from late morning because the weather was so awful we thought if they went out again they may take shelter somewhere and not come back in time. They’ve done that before. Still, I’d rather they’re miffed with us than out there in the thick of it. Ani looks gorgeous, as usual again. I hope you were OK with all the noise. 🙂

Ah, bless her. That’s the trouble with bonfire night nowadays. It used to be just on the night or the nearest weekend when I was a kid, but now there seem to be displays over a three-week period. Personally, although I love fireworks, I think that’s bad – there should be a law limiting the timeframes for these dos. It’s not fair on the animals otherwise. 🙂

Oh my goodness, that’s insane. It’ll be all year round before long. But it takes all the magic out of it because it ceases to be that special time of year when the focus is spread over such a long period. Madness. It is a frightening thing for animals of all kinds. We can keep our cats and dogs in, and give them reassurance at this time, but what about cattle, sheep and other farm animals out in the fields?

I’m not against anyone having a little fun, but the folks in our neighborhood were letting off fireworks for at least three weeks straight near Independence Day. I’m not talking about a few minor pops—these were full-fledged mortars. Both of my dogs were completely freaked, and my female completely loses it to the point of hyperventilating and climbing all over me. I never been the type of person that wanted some kind of ordinance about this, but I’ve changed my tune. Please think about all of the animals you are traumatizing and freaking out.

The whole of November seems to be ‘let off fireworks’ month. I really think that the sale of fireworks to the general public should be stopped, and only organised displays allowed.
Not only for the sake of the animals, but also for human safety, too. They are dangerous things.

I used to love making fireworks with my grandfather, though I imagine it was riskier than the child ever cared to think. But to have them going off every night for no reason is too much.
