Walking the dog

Do they worry, I wonder, lost in the rain,

Relentless thoughts that batter the brain

With rods of steel?

Do they see the river that falls from the sky

Red with the stop lights of cars going by

In the twilight?

Do they huddle in misery, full of regret

That they chose to walk and are getting wet

But don’t know why?

Their footsteps are led by a joyous soul

That bounds through the puddles, muddy and whole,

Loving the rain.

    Maggie doesn’t seem to like getting wet these days! Ani on the other hands obviously loves her walks regardless, bless her.

    I had one dog that refused to go out in the rain. She literally ‘held it’ for two days once just because she didn’t want to get wet.

    While I was looking out the car window today I saw a dog in a field by himself happily wagging his tail, so content with the simple joys of life. ❤

    Why does my dog loathe water applied indoors (in a bathtub, say) but adore any form of outdoor water?

    Of course, she wonders just the opposite about me…

    Rain has never stopped me from doing anything. I once put up an entire garden fence while it poured. I don’t think I have ever been that wet with my clothes on before!

    Two very different views of walking in the rain, superbly depicted… I love ‘the river that falls from the sky’ – it’s a bit like that today. My poor daughter got drenched while sailing this morning, even though she didn’t capsize! But after sailing, even in this downpour, she’s a joyous soul too. 🙂
