Poised between two worlds

In quiet meditation

Point of perfect peace

The photo for this week’s prompt was taken in Glastonbury, looking out from the doorway of the tiny chapel of St Margaret on Magdalen Street. It is a place of perfect peace in a town usually bristling with visitors and a place where, in spite of its Christian dedication, you can quietly touch the much older roots of reverence in this ancient and sacred patch of land.

Along one side of the garden are tiny almshouses… no more than a room with a mezzanine for sleeping…but they are safe and cosy and must have been a true Godsend to those in need of care. Some have been restored to give a glimpse into the  lives of those who lived there.

The Silent Eye held its very first landscape workshop in Glastonbury, visiting St Margarets amongst many other ancient, sacred or iconic sites in and around the town. We were also lucky enough to give a series of talks there one year, and visit the town half a dozen times, watching its landscape change with the seasons.

We have watched the maypole being carried through the town and worn crowns of May blossom. We have climbed to the tower and the dragon’s eggs on the Tor, visited the churches, ruins and wells, we know the town and its legends  well… but there is always more to discover and no two visits are ever the same to a place called
