Tech problems?

Has Mercury gone retrograde?
I kick myself for saying,
With half of my appliances
Not working and not playing.

I’m glad its spring, I have to say,
And home a warmer venue…
Because the bed is cold at night
And salad’s on the menu.

The microwave gave in and died,
The cooker’s playing up,
And when my heated blanket croaked,
It sort of filled my cup…

The printer will not work at all,
The lawnmower, though gold
From all the spraying in the shed,
Refused to start, it’s old.

In this list of disaster,
My poor car was just one item,
For things are breaking left and right,
It seems, ad infinitum.

But, let’s look on the bright side here,
The car, at least, is sorted,
And most ‘disasters’ prove themselves
Not all that they’re reported.

I really ought to lose some weight,
So salad will do nicely,
And now the weather’s warming up,
The bed is not too icy.

The printer simply means that I
Must use a pen once more.
And if I cannot cut the lawn,
Why then, outside my door…

There’ll be meadow, lush and green,
Where wildflowers can grow,
And small dog can bound in delight
While chasing thrush and crow.

Perhaps if I don’t mow the grass
And drop a pound or two
My back won’t need the heat at night…
That would be something new!

The one essential thing was fixed
The car is doing great,
I never did like microwaves
And all the rest can wait.

As dew-lit diamonds gild the green,
I head out to the car
And thinking it could be much worse,
I thank my lucky star.

    That was great, Sue. Of course, I and many others believe everything is timed to break down at a pre-set span of time. It seems to make sense. I hope more things are working soon for you. 🙂 — Suzanne

    Brilliant post, Sue, and frustrations that everyone will identify with. It made me smile in recognition, and I’m going to keep a copy of your poem to hand to cheer myself up when all these things happen to me next.     Yes, Mercury has gone retrograde. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be hiding in the closet. Sorry for all your troubles, but you certainly have the right attitude. It may not seem like it when we’re going through it, but there is always a bright side. And there’s also always someone worse off.

    I remember when the washing machine broke down when I had five children below age twelve plus incontinent father-in-law and we had no money. If I can survive a crisis like that, the rest is just fluff 🙂

    Very nice poem, Sue. I feel like this often and our government can’t keep the lights on in South Africa. We have just had to spend an obscene amount to purchase an automatic generator. It is true though, that it could be worse.

    Love, love, love this poem, Sue! Sometimes when things happen we freak out at first and then when we’ve had time to think things through we realize it’s not so bad. Limericks are so difficult for me, so I commend you on this one. 😀 xo
