I stopped the car, barely believing that the huge barn could still be standing. Perhaps its lace-like construction was too full of holes to offer any resistance to wind or time. Every imaginable scrap of wood and sheet metal had been used over the years to cover its skeleton with a patchwork of scars. Yet, it is still in use. Still serving its purpose, still being cared for.
Whether parsimony, necessity or love fuels the work, there is a beauty and tenacity in the ramshackle edifice. It reminds of the people I have known who stand against the buffeting of life. Their scars, whether they see it themselves or not, only add to their beauty.
Determination over logic ❤

Beautiful haiga Sue. That barn is something else, it sure is a strong symbol of hanging on despite it all.

The picture does not show quite how precarious its hold on life is, or how much daylight you can see between the boards… butit is impressive!

This is quite a beautiful picture and it is a miracle that it is still standing. Seeing things from our ancestors that are still standing and functional adds a dimension of belief and strength to our everyday lives. Thanks for sharing!

I loved this old place, patched together with whatever had come to hand, Mandy. I see the lessons of this building in action every day…and, from you story, so do you.

I don’t actually mind… growing older is part of the journey 🙂

Well, you’re coping better than I apparently 🙂 It’s not that I miss my youth, wish I were still there…but aging has brought losses which caught me off guard, and I’m having to deal with it all on own. It was easier to be independent and alone when I was younger.

h, it gets frustarting sometimes when I realise the age gap between mind and body is widening rapidly, but on the whole, I am enjoying observing the process (but not so much the effects of gravity 😉 )

Yes, the gravity thing 🙂 And I used to be so quick, could walk all over town speedily–get to destinations faster than the bus service; but now I’m SLOW–and it annoys me! Guess I’d better hurry up and learn patience with myself 🙂

I can still do fast… but far? Hmm 😉

It’s not how fast or far, but the journey, right? 🙂

What a marvellous character of a barn! It’s like a feisty OAP. Reminds me of my grandmother, she was just like that – determined, energetic and intelligent and she never suffered fools. We used to call her (affectionately!) a battleaxe. This is a battleaxe barn. It’s got personality! Thanks for making me smile.

As another feisty OAP, I can identify with this wonderfully ramshackle old barb. These days, I have to keep away from strong winds!
