To the tune of ‘We Three Kings’…
Dog and mistress suffering are,
Fever-ridden, stuffed with catarrh…
Snuffling, sneezing,
Coughing, wheezing,
Feeling quite under par…
Oh…ohh…
*
Chorus:
Got the lurgy, don’t feel great…
Christmas chores are running late,
Early closing?
Should be dozing!
Think that we should hibernate…
*
Dog’s complaining ‘cause I won’t go
Out for walks in frost, fog and snow,
She is seething,
I’m not breathing…
So much for ‘ho, ho, ho’.
Oh…ohh
*
Chorus
*
In the shed the tree’s still in store,
Baubles, tinsel, angels galore,
They can stay there,
I just don’t care!
Feeling too stiff and sore…
Oh…ohh…
*
Chorus
*
Haven’t baked a cake or mince pie,
I should make the effort and try,
Guests arriving,
Feel I’m skiving,
Think I’ll curl up and cry…
Oh…ohh…
*
Chorus
*
No gifts wrapped for Santa Claus’ sleigh,
Christmas cheer? Not much here today,
Nose is glowing
And it’s snowing…
… I need a holiday…
Oh…ohh…
*
Got the lurgy, don’t feel great…
Christmas chores are running late,
Early closing?
Should be dozing!
Think that we should hibernate…
*
Funny! Truly funny

I remember the old version from school;
We three kings of orient are, one in a taxi one inbva car,
one on a scooter papping his hooter, smoking a big cigar. 🎅

Meh…immune system + stress = cold? Yeah. 😦

That’s about the size of it.

I’m sure you know how to treat a cold, but if you have some Betadine, try painting some onto your skin. The iodine is like food for the immune system. May help. 🙂

That isn’t something I have in the medicine cupboard, sadly, but my diet is fairly iodine rich.

Then you’re fine. Here in Australia, our soil doesn’t provide enough so some supplementation is needed.

Tell me about it… We did used to learn about nutrition in school… not sure they still do…

Not sure it is taught any more.

I think we have something related to cooking here, as an elective, but I don’t think nutrition is taught. We do have a primary school initiative though. It marries growing vegies in the school plots and then showing the kids how to eat them. Maybe some slight cooking involved. Apparently the kids love it. Sadly it’s not done at every school.

Too many basic skills are being allowed to falter…which is a shame.

Yeah, I’d love to teach kids some of the old fashioned tips and tricks of our mothers’ generation – like bi-carb and vinegar for cleaning and some basic food nutrition. 😦

I remember the fabulous old books of household hints my great-grandmother had…. and many of them worked beautifully. I still teach my sons the things I remember.

Okay, wrong time of year to bring this up but…what if we sent a call out, asking people for tips and tricks from the past? We’d have to test them, but the ones that actually worked could go into a little book for younger generations. Maybe we could make it free for anyone who wanted it?
LikeLike
Not a bad idea… I’ve been asking for old lore of all kinds for a while, but have had only a few responses.

Do you have a post about it? I can tweet the url. That might help, esp as some of my friends have MCS so probably know a lot about old-style, non-chemical tricks.
