Sue, your Cinquain and Tanka really spoke to me this week. I have an affinity for birds, so that must be part of it too. I’ve had blackbirds and a crow hanging around lately. Crow actually brought me her baby so I could see her. ❤ This hawk (?) has the most expressive face. It is as if your words came tumbling on the wind to me. Splendid. ❤

Thanks, Colleen… this red kite has been roosting in a tree beside Nick’s garden, and we’ve been talking to one another for the past few days. I love coming eye to eye with these creatures. ❤

Absolutely. A red kite… I will look him up in my bird book. We have hawks here in Colorado. We watch them swooping in the sky overhead catching the different wind drafts. I never get to see them close up though. The prairie doesn’t offer many trees. Your red kite is magnificent. You can feel his wisdom. ❤

His wings are as wide as I am tall… and the kites are unbeatable for grace in the air. I am lucky… I see them every day here. ❤

Wow! Splendid bird. I did see a bald eagle perched on a light pole along the highway to the base a couple weeks ago. If we lived further out in the country I’m sure we would see all kinds of birds. I’ve had hummingbirds, finches, Siskins, and lots of black birds this year in my back garden at the feeder. ❤

Ah, now I envy you the hummingbirds, the nearest we get is the hummingbird moth which does a pretty good impression,but is not quite the same as flying jewels! ❤

I planted flowers to attract the fairies and the hummingbirds this year. I even put out a feeder where I made my own sugar water for them. We did have a few. One male was a verdant green with that little ruby jewel color under his throat. He would perch on the top rung of a tomato cage where I was growing dill. He sat there resting, but just far enough away I couldn’t get a photo. Lovely creature. He came every afternoon for about a month. We still have two females hovering about the blue bells. Birds are such magical creatures. ❤

I made my own sugar water for the ruby throat hummingbirds also. The family of three – the baby was born in my backyard – live in my garden. They don’t go anywhere else

Thank you, Sue. I watch the baby hummingbird every day. My research indicates that when the adults birds fly south (to Mexico) in the winter, the first year of the baby couldn’t go because it’s a 900 miles non-stop journey. I’ll take care of the baby for the winter. 🙂

We didn’t see the nest until 4 days before the baby was ready to fly. I was glad I sneaked up on the tree to take photos the last 4 days. After he started flying, the family stayed around for feeding. ❤

It was, <3. I was there when he flew out of the nest and clung on to the near by tree, hopped on to the other branches and did it for 20 minutes before flying away. I thought he got lost, but the mama bird found him and brought him around to the feeding area! ❤

Hi Colleen, I have new birds visiting me lately. I need to do a research to identify them. One pair may be easier to identify because they are blue all over but I don’t want to say they are blue jade yet. I can feel your love for seeing the baby crow. ❤

I felt privileged that the mama showed me the baby. She looked right up into my bedroom window and cawed to get my attention. Makes me feel good that the birds feel safe with us. ❤

Yes, they have a way to make us feel needed, and want to be close to us. There’re about 15 mourning doves and more than a dozen house finches perch on the wires around 5:00 p.m. waiting for the feeding. I feel bad not to feed them when we’re away. ❤

Okay. Usually, I can tell immediately, but that hawk looks an awful lot like an owl and since it has such a short beak … Owl? Hawk? Something similar but neither of these? My birdie books don’t help me with English birds. In fact, they don’t help me with birds that aren’t east coast USA. Bird books are pretty localized. I give up. What is is?
