Some people have fairies and pixies
With whom they share wishes and vows,
But down at the end of my garden
I just have a herd of pink cows.
And no, I’ve not been at the bottle,
They’re not pink pachyderms just for me…
But on every clear night through the summer
They are there, plain for all eyes to see.
They must be quite magical creatures…
For by day they are just black and white,
But just watch as the sun gets to setting
And they will transform in the light.
The dog’s none too happy to see them
And could well live without them, she says.
But I love watching their transformation
As they bathe in the sun’s dying rays.
Now as fairies and pixies are tiny,
And leprechauns grant pots of gold,
Just how big a wish could they offer?
I could ask, but that might be too bold.
I could ask that they might change their diet,
And give a real treat to my nose,
If the grass they have munched on at one end
Came out again smelling of rose.
But perhaps my wish’s already granted,
For not everyone’s lucky to see
A herd of pink cows in their garden…
And everyday magic for free.

I love this, Sue: full of wit and humor and, yes, something magical.
While I love the visual aid offered in the picture and how it may have even inspired the poem, I got to envisioning this poem in a print-only book; and I think it would become a favorite of many, because of the curiosity, mental imagery and “puzzle solving” that would be required.

That’s a good thought, Erik, as I only illustrate my poetry books in black and white and the effect would be lost.

Wonderful Sue! Now you have to buy some pink clothing for Ani, making her a pink cow. Lol
Costumizing like Sarah (travelswithchoppy.wordpress.com) does with her favorite fourlegger. 😉
Have a nice Sunday! Michael

Pink cows, eh. Better than pink elephants I guess. Seriously, I think cows are great, such lovely eyes, but yeah, they do whiff a bit.

I guess that depends on what you look for any a poem. One such thing for me is a good chuckle, and this one gave me that. Plus, you always have a clever way with words. This is no exception. And, well . . . pink cows! Need I say more? 😀

How wonderful, as I said the other day how you see life depends on how you look at things.
