Notes from a small dog – In hiding…

We are back at the point where she’s losing the plot,
‘When she’s tearing her hair out and swearing a lot,
When there’s costumes and props strewn all over the place
And she’s wearing that panicky look on her face.

‘Cause it’s April again and The Workshop, you see,
And around her’s no place for a small dog to be,
So I’m spending my days hiding under the table
And sneaking out briefly whenever I’m able.

I do try to help, it’s not easy at all
When there’s boxes of stuff between me and the ball
That I keep throwing for her, by way of distraction,
And to keep her alert… I request interaction.

Then to help her keep trim, I’ve a neat plan in place
That prevents her from snacking or stuffing her face…
Every time she goes into the kitchen to feed
I will stand at the treat cupboard, look sad and plead.

Now this works a treat, if you’ll pardon the pun,
‘Cause she either forgets, gives me food, and that’s fun…
Or more likely she will not go in there at all
‘Cause, ” You’ve put on a pound or two, girlie, since fall…”

So to care for my waistline, she doesn’t go in,
While she’s thinking of me, I can help her get thin 🙂
(I am patenting this as the ‘new canine diet’…
If you have a rescue dog too, you can try it!).

I’ve even worked out how to help her do cleaning,
(Which isn’t, she says, her most natural leaning),
I just shed the hair from my thick winter pelt!
(‘Cause with summer soon coming, you know, I would melt…)

She says that I shed half a carpet a day,
And she grumbles and moans as she’s cleaning away,
But the birds use the fur she collects for their nest
And I’m keeping her moving…its all for the best!

See, I know that she has loads of stuff on her mind
And that time for a snuggle’s not easy to find,
So I’m doing my bit, just to show that I care,
We are working together, I’ll always be there.

Because that’s what dogs do, we look after our kin
(Even if it means making them clean and get thin)
And whenever she stops for a minute or three,
The first thing her hand reaches out for is me.

Much love,
Ani

Dogs, and catties too, bring so much color and life into ours. At present I have five chihuahuas, one being part Husky, and two catties, The part Husky, Yukon Jack, is a foster child, and the most humorous of all. He knows the secret of the Teary Eyes, and so when he wants his little bit of coffee, and yes, in HIS cup, not a bowl, he sits looking at me, and his eyes tear up something terrible. I feel like the ogrese who goes out of her way to punish these poor souls. Yes, it is supposed to be terrible for them, but this guy started drinking it the first day he came to stay with us. I got up to get something, and he got up in my chair and helped himself. I thought about it a lot, but then we all probably eat or drink things that are supposed to be not good for us.
Ani is one of the very intelligent folk; you can tell from her writing. And not someone to be ignored for longer than absolutely necessary either.
