Sunset

https://scvincent.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/p1160237.jpg

The sun set tonight.

It always does.

A blaze of glory in the western sky,

Closing the day.

Did you see the flames caress the moon as she rose?

Or were you sleeping, dreaming of survival.

It will not come again, that moment.

Once missed it is forever gone.

There are stars tonight, a faint light in the heavens,

Almost drowned by the glow of cities,

Yet ever present on the edge of vision,

Scattered motes of possibility in the darkness.

Dawn will follow.

It always does.

A gentle birthing in the eastern sky.

Will you greet the sun?

Watch the delicate petals unfold a new beginning?

It will not come again.

Not this dawn.

Will you take this virgin morn

And make it yours?

Or will you sleep?

  2. As appealing as these pictures and this poem is, Sue, the way I feel right now; nothing beats sleep. Happy Easter.

  8. I always take a peek in the morning to see how sunrise is going, but then i go back to bed. I have reached a stage where sleep matters more than sunrise. Who’d have thunk it?

I’m a night owl, it’s when I get my best writing done, so it’s sunsets for me. 😀 … and vicarious sunrises via Sue and Ani. 🙂

So lovely, Sue! I never miss a sunrise or a sunset for that matter. They are so beautiful and they are free to all. Love and hugs, dear friend.

One of the things I miss most about Orkney is standing outside the back door at night and looking up to see the stars, so clear in their own light. I loved this poem Sue, I definitely won’t be asleep. xxx
