Ani’s Advent – The coconut confession…

Dear Santa, as you’re coming soon
I have a small confession,
I ask for that forgiveness
You can grant at your discretion.

I have this little problem,
I did not do as I ought,
And now I am in trouble,
‘Cause, dear Santa… I got caught.

I had to jump up on her knee,
‘Cause it was half-past dinner…
She needs reminding sometimes
Else I’d soon be getting thinner!

“Oho! Small dog,” she said to me,
“I don’t think you’ll be needing
An awful lot to eat tonight.
You really don’t need feeding…”

“Of course I do,” I answered her,
“I ate at six this morning!”
“But what about the coconut?
That was your final warning….”

I know. I have a problem here,
That was an aberration…
The thing just dangled, tantalised…
I can’t resist temptation!

She puts these coconuts outside
To feed my feathered buddies,
All filled with fat and grubs and worms
And loads of other goodies!

The wind makes them so tempting
As they dangle on the tree,
As high as she can reach,
But sometimes not too high for me!

The robins and the little birds
Come in to break their fast,
But if a raven knocks it down?
It isn’t going to last 🙂

She put a new one out today,
A special Christmas treat…
But honestly, it just fell down
And landed at my feet!

So what’s a dog to do
When manna’s falling from the air?
I know she hates to waste good food…
I couldn’t leave it there!

But it’s the third I’ve had this week,
My coat’s in great condition!…
But getting caught out left me
In a really bad position…

She says tomorrow’s coconut
Will hang upon the shed…
And if I eat another one
I’ll soon wish I were dead…

I had to do the puppy eyes,
My head upon her knee,
“Oh Ani you are such a ham!”
(Would she have ham for me?)

And so I got my dinner twice,
The birds she fed on bacon,
“They really must have liked the stuff!”
Said she, but she’s mistaken…

“They ate it all, and quicker
That I thought that they’d be able!”
Don’t tell her that I had that too,
‘Cause I can reach the table…

OMG Ani and so close to Christmas! When it comes to food, I have no willpower either. You see I went hungry once when I was a Camino dog. Now when I see food, I just have to have it. I know Santa will understand and still bring you something. Your friend, Dot.

Ani, I think Santa will understand how utterly irresistible such treats are to an inquisitive small dog. After all, a bird dog sort of dog is meant to find things, even hidden and hiding things. And, if he were to get a bit cross, those puppy eyes will melt his resolve in moments.

  5. Oh Ani darling! be careful you don’t overload your tummy and make yourself ill! 🙂
There are chocolates hanging on the tree here, and loads of parcels underneath, but I’m not interested. I’ve seen something else in the cupboard which I hope/think/know is for me……….. and it’s not edible. love Maggie x

Oh, Ani, that’s hilarious 🙂 I’m sure you will be forgiven. No dog could resist such temptation. Hope you are safe from the antlers!

  7. I think it is possible that Duke and Ani are twins parted at birth. Yes, I know they don’t LOOK alike, but they clearly view the world the same way.

It is truly amazing just exactly what a (not so) small, and determined, dog, can reach. 😀
