Ani’s Advent Invitation: The Wrong Christmas…

Sometimes I am just  torn between knowing what I ought to do… and being tempted. Like the time she left the fridge door open irresistably wide… or the night when she left the chocolates wrapped under the tree, before I knew they were out of bounds… Christmas is one of those times when tempation usually wins.

And if I don’t get into trouble, you can guarantee that she will…or that something will go wrong… Like the year the turkey was stull frozen Christmas morning, or the one when  …or when she woke with ‘flu and had everybody coming to dinner. If stuff might go wrong, at Christmastime, it generally does.

And it isn’t just here either… Pamela from butterflysand seems to know all about it too!

The wrong Christmas
Pamela Read

Jingle bells
something smells
the turkey’s past its prime
the lights are blown
the elves have grown
and Santa’s lost his sleigh
Rudolf’s gone
the deer are wrong
and Christmas needs a redo
nothings right
your friends are tight
the liquor’s flowing free
the foods a bust
it’s so unjust
company’s come to call
so what to do
except bid adieu
and hide out in the cellar
but never fear
in another year
Christmas comes again

  1. Dogs and cats have it figured out – why stress out over “perfect” when really the only thing is what “is”(does that make sense?)

Ani, as you well know, we Two-Legs have strange ways of thinking. When I saw the title of this fun poem, “The Wrong Christmas”, I thought of an animated film your Two-Legs might know, “The Wrong Pants”, a Wallace and Gromit story. Gromit, is a smallish dog who has an eccentric Two-Legs to look after.

A cute poem, Pamela! Don’t worry Ani, at Christmas time everyone is usually in a forgiving mood.

  6. And here, we are also in the waiting time, with the new toys locked up for protection — the ripping and rending will come soon enough. Food carefully stowed where no dog can reach it, or so we believe. The sky is white with snow on the way and it is cold outside. Very cold.

Happy Solstice and Christmas and may all our dogs be warm, cozy, and full of leftovers!

So glad Ani survived the chocolate! And Garfield took notes – he’s already drinking the Christmas tree water and had his merry way with the settings on the table. Life is grand!
